The Department of Transfusion Medicine, S.P. Medical College, Bikaner has performed its 13th Stem Cell Harvesting procedure, being highest in the government sector, in the state of Rajasthan. The first procedure was done in the year 2019. Due to covid, the work had halted for some time but now it has started again with full enthusiasm. Wish this department will progress in full swing like this in future.

Transfusion medicine (TM) has grown exponentially in recent decades. The current concept of transfusion medicine includes both transfusion of blood components and hematopoietic transplants, cellular and tissue therapy and immunotherapy. Traditionally, TM has been thought of as just blood collection, pretransfusion testing, and blood administration. However, modern TM is so much more than blood banking.

The below picture is the bag of stem cells, more precisely, Haematopoetic Stem Cells, the immature cells that can develop into all types of blood cells, including white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.Today, Department of Transfusion Medicine, S.P. Medical College, Bikaner has done its 13th stem cell harvesting procedure, highest in the government sector, Rajasthan state. Transfusion medicine has grown exponentially in recent decades. The blood bank community goes to great lengths to ensure that blood component transfusions are safe and achieve the desired outcome. However, modern TM is so much more than blood banking. The future of TM lies in cellular therapies: the collection, processing, and infusion of bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells, cord blood, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR-T cells).
