The Bachelor of Physical Education department was established in 1978, in the ideal campus of Nikhil Banga Sikshan Mahavidyalaya, Bishnupur, (a Proposed Heritage Town) Dist.- Bankura, with a novel and unique attempt of ABTA since 1976 to anticipate the urgent need of Physical Education Teachers of five surrounding Districts of Bankura, W.B. In initial starting the infrastructaral facilities of Bis
hnupur High School & K.G. Engineering Institute were utilized besides the facilities of N.B.S.M Bishnupur, Bankura. Since 1980 the institution was housed in its own big and magnificent building with required Class Rooms, Library, Full Residential Hostel, Sports Store, Laboratories, Field Facilities, Multipurpose- Hall, Multigym and Recreational hall etc., with necessary equipments and facilities as per N.T.C.E. At present a standard size new Gymnasium (100ft X 60ft) is under construction which will be opened shortly. It has a rich library with about 1555 valuable books & 15 current valuable Journals on Physical Education & sports (as on 17.02.2006) along with about another 10709 books & few valuable Journals (as on 08.03.2006) in Physical Education and allied fields. The institution is affiliated to Burdwan University, Burdwan, W.B. and it is the only Govt. assisted B.P. Ed College of this nature till now, in the districts of Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan, Hooghly, Birbhum of W.B. Staff salary, Grants for development of library, laboratories, equipments and play fields are borne by the Govt. In addition, the institution is receiving financial grants time to time from the University Grants Commission.
