To mark International Day of Biodiversity 2026, Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya organised a high-level stakeholder consultation in collaboration with the Bihar State Biodiversity Board (BSBB), Government of Bihar.
Convened under the leadership of Dr Vinita Sahay, Director, IIM Bodh Gaya, the consultation examined the distribution, economics, trade, and market linkages of biological resources across Aurangabad, Gaya, and Rohtas districts under the BSBB-funded research project led by Dr. Payal Dey, Ph.D. and Dr. Anup Anurag Soren.
The programme featured an expert panel discussion on “Access Benefit Sharing (ABS) of Forest Produce in Bihar” with Dr. Ram Pratap Singh (Central University of South Bihar, Gaya), Dr. Meenakshi Singh (Sustaina Greens LLP), and Dr. Shivendu K. Srivastava, IFS (Retd.). Shri Hem Kant Roy, Joint Director, BSBB, highlighted the role of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) and People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) in preserving local ecological knowledge and strengthening biodiversity governance.
The consultation underscored the importance of community-centred biodiversity governance, sustainable livelihoods, and nature-positive development, concluding with stakeholder recommendations and the adoption of the Bihar Biodiversity Action Statement, reaffirming IIM Bodh Gaya’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
