Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act as the governing document of India. The Drafting Committee was appointed to draft a permanent constitution with Dr. B.R Ambedkar as its Chairman. The draft is revisited and modified in a number of meetings held over a period of 2 years, 11 months and 18 days before the it is adopted. And on this day, 1950, the constitution came into effect throughout of the nation and thus completing the country’s transition toward becoming an Independent Republic.

As a part of Republic Day celebrations, India receives a foreign head of state every year as its guest on the occasion of Republic Day. While former US President Barack Obama was the chief guest in 2015, French President Francois Hollande graced the occasion in 2016. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will be the chief guest at this year's Republic Day parade.

Blood donation is one of the most significant contributions that a person can make towards the society. Donate blood and save a life; a penniless present to a crucial cause. It is the duty of every human. Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur takes pride to say that we have contributed our bit to this noble cause.

A blood donation camp has been organized by the Sankalp Club at the IIM Sambalpur campus on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. The blood donation drive was organized in collaboration with the Red Cross Blood Bank, Sambalpur. The event has witnessed a great turn up of more than 75 donors of whom included students, faculty and staff members. The community came together to participate with great enthusiasm and deepened social awareness among them.

Throughout the morning, there were smiles and laughter all around - a true embodiment of what we believe in - selfless service with a smile. The donors received certificate of recognition and a credit card where one unit of blood is available free from Govt. Blood Bank in next one year.

We thank all the donors for their participation in our first blood donation camp. Special thanks to Amrut Phalguni Mohanty sir(PGP Officer, IIM Sambalpur), Shrimanta Kumar Das sir(Student affairs and general administration, IIM Sambalpur), Silicon faculty and Red Cross Sambalpur for the participation and making this event successful.

Blood Donation Camp is up and running successfully !!
We are proud to see the high participation to donate blood and save lives !!

A few recommendations for the donors after blood donation:
> Drink an extra four (8 ounce) glasses of liquids and avoid alcohol over the next 24 hours.
> Remove the wrap bandage (if you had one put on your arm) within the next hour.
> Keep the strip bandage on for the next several hours.
> To avoid a skin rash, clean the area around the strip bandage with soap and water.
> Do not do any heavy lifting or vigorous exercise for the rest of the day.
> If the needle site starts to bleed, apply pressure to it and raise your arm straight up for about 5-10 minutes or until bleeding stops.
> If you experience dizziness or lightheadedness after donation, stop what you are doing and sit down or lie down until you feel better. Avoid performing any activity where fainting may lead to injury for at least 24 hours.
