आँखों से संबद्ध मुहावरे
आँखें
शेक्सपियर ने अपने प्रसिद्ध नाटक ऑथेलो में लिखा था कि हरी आँख वाले से होशियार रहें

आँख की अंग्रेज़ी तो आप सभी जानते हैं Eye और इससे जुड़े शब्द Eyeball, Eyelash, Eyebrow, यानी आँखों की पुत्ली, पप्नी और भौं भी आप जानते ही हैं, आइए देखते हैं कुछ आँखों के मुहावरे अंग्रेज़ी में, हिंदी में नहीं, क्योंकि हिंदी में आपको सब मालूम है. देखते हैं नीचे दिए गए कितने मुहावरों से आप परिचित हैं?

apple of one's eye (एप्पल ऑफ़ वन्स आई) यानी आँखों का तारा होना, बहुता प्यारा होना, All children were special but the youngest was the apple of his father’s eye.

eye-catching (आई कैचिगं) यानी आकर्षित करने वाली, कोई भी ऐसी चीज़ जो आंखों को अपनी ओर खींच ले,
जैसे: She wore an eye catching low-waist jeans.

Reward और Award में क्या अंतर है?

ग्रामी अवार्ड
ग्रामी हो या बाफ़टा या फिर फ़िल्म फ़ेयर सारे समारोह में दिए जाने वाले पुरस्कार अवार्ड कहलाते हैं

कुछ शब्द ऐसे होते हैं जिनसे हम अच्छी तरह परिचित होते हैं लेकिन उनके इस्तेमाल में कहीं भूल हो जाती है. इसे ही हम कॉमन एरर्स के नाम से जानते हैं.

आज हम कुछ काफ़ी जाने पहचाने शब्द ले कर आए हैं जिनके इस्तेमाल में ग़लती होने की संभावना बढ़ जाती है.

इसी प्रकार का एक शब्द है Reward (रिवॉर्ड) और दूसरा Award (अवॉर्ड).

आज हम एक जैसे स्वर वाले शब्दों पर बात नहीं कर रहे हैं बल्कि एक जैसे अर्थ वाले शब्दों पर बात कर रहे हैं.

प्रतिफल, इनाम, बदला या पुरस्कार के अर्थों में इस्तेमाल होने वाले शब्द रिवॉर्ड का प्रयोग हम किसी सकारात्मक काम के बदले के लिए करते हैं. जैसे मेहनत का फल, लक्ष्य हासिल करने के लिए, परिक्षा में अच्छे नंबर लाने के लिए वग़ैरह.

कहीं कहीं गुमशुदा चीज़ की तलाश के लिए लगाए जाने वाले पोस्टरों पर भी बड़े अक्षरों में हम REWARD लिखा हुआ देखते हैं जिसका अर्थ ये होता है कि अगर वह चीज़ कोई व्यक्ति ढूंढ देता है तो उसे कुछ इनाम में दिया जाता है वह पैसा भी हो सकता है ट्रीट भी, यानी हल्की फुल्की दावत.

यहां rewarded for something और to reward someone with something को ध्यान में रखें.

अब देखें अवॉर्ड (Award) को

ये भी किसी अच्छे कारनामे या उप्लब्धि के लिए दिया जाता है लेकिन यह ज़रा औपचारिक होता है. इसमें दिखावा शामिल होता है.

अवॉर्ड में प्रमाण-पत्र या ट्रॉफ़ी तरह की कोई चीज़ भी शामिल होती है जिसे आम तौर पर बहुत सारे लोगों के सामने पेश किया जाता है लेकिन रिवॉर्ड सिर्फ़ लेने और देने वाले के बीच में पूरा हो सकता है.

ऑस्कर अवार्ड जीतने वालों को यही ट्रॉफ़ी मिलती है

Rani and Priya received an award for getting outstanding results in the maths exam.

We would expect that the award was awarded in the school assembly or at a special presentation event.

Salman was awarded a gold medal for winning the half-marathon.

यह सब लोगों की उपस्थिति में होता है. अवॉर्ड में पैसा भी शामिल हो सकता है जैसे-

Anil received an award of Rs. 5000 as compensation for the bike accident.

अब तो आप समझ गए होंगे कि कहां रिवॉर्ड कहना है और कहां अवॉर्ड वैसे इन दोनों का प्रयोग संज्ञा और क्रिय दोनों रूप में हो सकता है.
