"Every Cake Has a Story. So Does the Business Behind It."

​Meet Chiya’s, the student-run bakery by Aaryan Srivastava, Abhay Neti, Rahul Dwivedi, Rahul Narayanan, and Surya Narula at Great Lakes, bringing cakes, brownies, and joy to campus, one order at a time. Whether picking up brownies between classes or ordering a midnight birthday cake, the campus knows Chiya’s well - but behind the scenes lies the real learning of running a business alongside an MBA.

​What started as a chance to build something of their own now spans setting prices, managing vendors, coordinating deliveries, and running weekly stalls.

​Their biggest takeaway? Customer experience is made in the smallest details - a carefully packed box, a prompt reply, or a timely delivery. Every order has taught the team that consistency builds trust, mistakes offer lessons, and small interactions forge lasting relationships.

​That is learning baked into every experience. That is the Great Lakes experience.

MBA or Job?

That was the big question of 2026. Working as a Digital Marketing Apprentice at Google was one of the best decisions I’d ever made. Great people, great work, and obviously, great learning. At the end of my stint, the long hours of preparation, the grueling interviews and the anticipation of getting selected two years prior were so worth it. The next rational thing to do was continue working, climb the career ladder, but I felt a gap that I couldn’t seem to fill.

As an economics major who dived into the world of marketing, I always felt like an imposter; great at what I did, but never able to understand the broader perspective of things. The bane of all young professionals; tunnel vision. That’s when I stumbled upon Great Lakes’ website; "Where the art of leadership blends with the science of management". One curious scroll and here I am - living the fast MBA life, learning more than I ever thought I would, reigniting my love for singing, joining the coolest committee ever (ahem, it’s BPR) and petting so, sooo many cats!

I joined to gain a network, formal education, and understand my interest in marketing better. Three months in, I’ve managed to make amazing friends, learn from the best faculty, get back on stage, host some amazing events, and even show up on the institute’s instagram handle!

From Google to Great Lakes, I’ve realized that growth isn't just about climbing faster; it’s about seeing further. I’m not done here, there is so much more that I wish to accomplish, so many more memories that I’m eager to make. And if the first three months are any indication, these two years are going to be nothing short of iconic.
