Yesterday-- Felix Baumgartner, a 43-year old skydiver from Austria, made the official Guinness world record for the highest and fastest freefall from outer space (stratosphere). It took him 5 and a half minutes to reach the surface of earth from his space station. This was a NASA-RedBull co-funded project to test the safety of space emergency evacuations. This is gonna be a milestone for years to come!

We've been hearing vels web team will be developing individual microsites for each department on the vels homepage. This microsite will have content specific to the department that targets the interest of prospective students. Life sciences microsite concept layout has been submitted by us last week.

Vels temple renovated and is celebrating its Maha Kumbabhisekam right now. More exciting for the students though is that Coffee Day has opened its outlet inside the campus today!

Freshers, classes for first years begin for all depts except engg on Aug 1. It'll be Aug 13 for engg students. My long due duty is now over. Cheers :)
