The Visit

On 6 August 2026, students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering visited the Centre for Reliability (CFR), Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai, accompanied by faculty members Dr. N. Deepa and Mrs. S. Sarupriya. The visit provided students with valuable exposure to the importance of reliability engineering and its role in ensuring the quality, safety, and dependable performance of electronic and electro-mechanical products.

About CFR

The Centre for Reliability (CFR) is a Government of India organisation under the STQC Directorate, specialising in the reliability assessment of electronic, electro-mechanical, and IT products. CFR supports Indian industries in developing reliable, safe, and globally competitive products through advanced testing, assessment, and training..

Technical Exposure

The expert sessions introduced students to functional testing, security testing, website quality certification using SortSite, GIGW 3.0, and infrastructure auditing. Students also gained insights into cybersecurity for smart cities, web security, network security, and Vulnerability Assessment and Pe*******on Testing (VAPT).

The sessions highlighted tools such as Burp Suite and Nessus for identifying security vulnerabilities. Students were also introduced to CCTV camera testing and CCTV security, along with the importance of protecting network and web-based systems.

The expert sessions also emphasised the significance of EMC and EMI testing, including electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic interference, surge immunity, and transient immunity, which are essential for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electronic products.

The visit helped students understand how testing, security assessment, and reliability evaluation contribute to developing safe, secure, high-quality, and dependable products.

Takeaway

The visit provided students with valuable practical exposure to reliability engineering, cybersecurity, software and website testing, network security, CCTV security, and EMC/EMI testing, helping them connect classroom concepts with real-world industrial practices.

The Department of Information Technology, Velammal Engineering College, successfully organized an Industrial visit to the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Ekkatuthangal, on 3rd and 4th August 2026 for the III Year B.Tech. Information Technology students.

The visit provided students with valuable exposure to industrial practices, technology-driven solutions, and the significant role of NSIC in supporting the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Through expert interactions and facility visits, students gained practical insights into entrepreneurship, innovation, quality standards, and contemporary industrial operations, enriching their academic learning with real-world industry perspectives.
