Avidadham, (meaning process of drug making) is an International Conference organised by the post graduate students of the Department of Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai. Following the four successful versions of the conference during the years 2013 - 2016, Avidadham’17 focuses on recent advances in terms of gene editing. The conference provides an excellent platform where students, research

ers, faculties, scientists and industrialists congregate and interact. Participants not only get to meet eminent scientists and industrialists but also get a chance to present their ideas and research as presentations to share science for a better future.

An ideathon is a short, intensive, brainstorming event to help young talents generate fresh solutions to existing challenges in their communities. Participants work in teams and use innovative ideation practices such as design thinking to brainstorm on possible solutions.

What is AI? How this is used in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector .........

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.

Machine Learning (ML)-Machine learning is an application of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) has turned out to be omnipresent in tech startups. Major Applications of AI are Drug Discovery & Clinical Trials, Diagnostics, Personalized Medicine, Gene Editing and Electronic Health Record (EHR).

A survey of pharma and life sciences experts showed that 44% were using AI in their R&D activities. The survey also revealed that AI majorly finds applications in preclinical phases of drug development.

Difference between biologics and small molecules? Whom they are?

Biologics, such as vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, are similar or identical to the complex proteins that exist in nature. They are 200 to 1000 times the size of small molecules. Whereas small molecule drugs are less complex and can be reproduced quite easily by chemists in a lab, biologics can’t be reproduced as easily.
