From silence to support: CTTE College workshop focuses on su***de prevention

The Department of Psychology of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and The Mental Compass Magazine, organised a workshop on “From Silence to Support – Encouraging Conversations, Compassion and Connection” on September 10, in commemoration of World Su***de Prevention Day.

Counselling Psychologist V. S. Suriya Sre led the session, which focused on the importance of open conversations, empathetic listening and timely support in promoting emotional well-being and su***de prevention.

Ms. Suriya Sre emphasised the need to create safe spaces where individuals experiencing emotional distress can communicate their concerns without fear of judgement or stigma. Students were encouraged to listen with empathy, respond sensitively and guide those in distress towards appropriate support and professional assistance.

The workshop also highlighted the role of meaningful human connections in fostering a supportive campus environment. Students were sensitised to the importance of recognising emotional distress, encouraging help-seeking and extending compassionate support to their peers.

The programme sought to strengthen awareness among students about responsible communication, emotional well-being and the collective role of the community in su***de prevention.

CTTE students shine at inter-collegiate competitions

Students of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women achieved notable distinction at inter-collegiate competitions organised by Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women on 18 August 2026.

Ms. R. Zohoirunnisa and Ms. K. Vijayakumari of II BCA secured second prize in the Launchpad competition, demonstrating creativity, innovative thinking, and effective presentation skills.

Ms. S. M. Sairunisha and Ms. S. Viveka of III BCA received the Best Paper Award (First Prize) in the Tamil Paper Presentation competition, in recognition of their research aptitude, scholarly presentation, and effective articulation of ideas.

Ms. S. Viveka of III BCA secured second prize in the Tamil Speech Competition, demonstrating confidence, clarity of expression, and effective oratory skills.

The students’ achievements reflect their active participation in inter-collegiate academic and co-curricular activities.

காலந்தோறும் தமிழரின் அரசியல் பண்பாட்டு வரலாறு: பன்னாட்டுக் கருத்தரங்கம்

பன்னாட்டுக் கருத்தரங்கம் “காலந்தோறும் தமிழரின் அரசியல் பண்பாட்டு வரலாறு” என்னும் கருப்பொருளில், 14.08.2026 அன்று சி.டி.டி.இ. மகளிர் கல்லூரியின் தமிழ்த் துறை சார்பில் பன்னாட்டுக் கருத்தரங்கம் நடைபெற்றது. இக்கருத்தரங்கில் திரு. ஜெயதீஸ்வரன், முதுநிலை விரிவுரையாளர், வரலாற்றுத் துறை, பேராதனைப் பல்கலைக்கழகம், இலங்கை, அவர்கள் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராகக் கலந்து கொண்டார்.
சி.டி.டி.இ. கல்வி அறக்கட்டளையின் நிர்வாக அறங்காவலரும் தாளாளருமான திரு. இல. பழமலை, இ.ஆ.ப. (ஓய்வு) அவர்கள் தலைமையுரை வழங்கினார். கல்லூரியின் துணை முதல்வர் முனைவர் குயின்சி ஆஷா தாஸ் அவர்கள் வாழ்த்துரை வழங்கினார். தமிழ்த்துறையின் தலைவர் முனைவர் க. பிரீதா அவர்கள் வரவேற்புரை வழங்கினார். கருத்தரங்கின் நோக்கவுரையை கருத்தரங்க ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் முனைவர் தோ. எழிலரசி அவர்கள் வழங்கினார்.

சிறப்பு விருந்தினர் தமது உரையில், தமிழ்நாட்டில் மன்னர் ஆட்சிக் காலம் முதல் இன்றைய ஆட்சி முறைகள் வரையிலான அரசியல் மாற்றங்களை எடுத்துரைத்ததுடன், மாணவர்கள் சமத்துவ நெறியுடன் வாழ வேண்டியதன் அவசியத்தையும் வலியுறுத்தினார். மேலும், மாணவர்கள் அரசியல் மற்றும் தமிழ்நாட்டின் அரசியல் வரலாறு குறித்த அடிப்படை அறிவைப் பெற்றிருப்பது அவசியம் எனக் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

சி.டி.டி.இ. கல்வி அறக்கட்டளையின் தாளாளரும் செயலாளருமான திரு. இல. பழமலை, இ.ஆ.ப. (ஓய்வு) அவர்கள் உரையாற்றுகையில், இன்றைய இளைய தலைமுறையினர் தமிழர்களின் அரசியல் வரலாற்றை அறிந்து கொள்வதன் அவசியத்தை வலியுறுத்தினார். ஒவ்வொரு காலகட்டத்திலும் தமிழர்களின் ஆட்சி நிலை எவ்வாறு அமைந்திருந்தது என்பதைப் புரிந்து கொள்வது முக்கியம் எனக் குறிப்பிட்டார். சங்க காலம் முதல் தற்காலம் வரை ஆட்சி முறைகள் பல்வேறு மாற்றங்களுக்கு உட்பட்டிருந்தாலும், மக்களின் நலனை மையமாகக் கொண்டு ஆட்சி நடத்தப்பட்டதையும், ஐரோப்பியர்களின் வருகைக்குப் பின்னர் தமிழ்நாட்டில் பல்வேறு முன்னேற்றங்கள் ஏற்பட்டதையும் அவர் சுட்டிக்காட்டினார்.

காலந்தோறும் தமிழர்களின் அரசியல் மற்றும் பண்பாட்டுத் தளங்களில் ஏற்பட்ட மாற்றங்களை மாணவர்கள் அறிந்து, அவற்றை விமர்சன ரீதியாகச் சிந்திப்பதற்கும், அரசியல் குறித்த புரிதலை மேம்படுத்துவதற்கும் இக்கருத்தரங்கம் வாய்ப்பளித்தது. மேலும், 34 ஆய்வுக்கட்டுரைகள் இடம்பெற்ற ஆய்வுத் தொகுப்பு நூல் கருத்தரங்க நாளன்று வெளியிடப்பட்டது.
