rst step towards the establishment of full-fledged college of engineering with a wide range of technical education facilities in various fields in the foreseeable future. In pursuance of this objective SAINT MICHAEL'S POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE was established in a temporary premises at 12, Ormes Road, Kilpauk, Chennai 600 010 in the year 1984 as a self financing polytechnic approved by the Government of Tamilnadu, vide Department of Education, Science and Technology, G.O. No.1758 dated 07-11-1984, for three courses namely Civil, Automobile and Electronics and Communication Engineering. In 1992, the Mechanical Engineering course was added. The polytechnic added two additional courses namely Computer Technology and Electrical and Electronics Engineering from 1994 - 1995. In 2001 - 2002, Information Technology course was also added. As a Self-financing Institute almost all the necessary infrastructural facilities have been built up over the years for the smooth and efficient running of the Polytechnic. The Polytechnic is located near Avadi, Off Avadi-Redhills Road. The Institution is located in the midst of SIDCO Industrial Park, where more than 1000 industries have been set up. The Campus is situated in an extensive area of 36 acres. The natural surroundings around the Institution provide an excellent lush green beautiful atmosphere for ideal and creative education. The college buildings have been well planned and built in a calm, pollution free environment. The class rooms, office, library, computer rooms, Drawing halls, etc., are accommodated in the main building having an area of 25,000sq.ft. Apart from the Main Building there is another Block functioning as fully air-conditioned Ultra Model Computer Centre with 150 high configured systems. There is highly equipped English Communication Lab with a capacity of 100 students accommodating at a time. Apart from these building there are eight blocks of buildings with total area of 24,000 Sq.ft. that accommodate various Workshops, Machine Shops, Laboratories, etc. Workshops and Laboratories are well equipped. The infrastructure is being improved every year. In order to improve the employment opportunities of our students there is a placement and counseling cell in the Institute to guide students properly. The college aims at imparting high quality excellent education to all categories of students. We strive for nurturing the potential of students by designing and delivering current, relevant and creative learning inputs. We believe that every student has infinite potential and each individual is unique. Every effort is taken to provide students an environment that nurtures different dimensions of individuality.
