Prof. Shyam Ramamurthy, is currently working as Professor of Practice at Firebird Institute of Research in Management, where his deep domain expertise in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Operations is leveraged to seamlessly integrate industry practice with postgraduate management education. His teaching approach is strongly grounded in case-based discussions, experiential learning models, and application-oriented frameworks that prepare students to address real-world operational complexities with analytical rigor and strategic clarity.
With over 43 years of comprehensive professional experience, his career reflects a rare blend of corporate leadership, strategic consulting, academic engagement, and entrepreneurial mentoring. He completed his B.Tech. from National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and earned a Post-Graduate Diploma in Materials Management from the University of Mumbai, building a strong technical and managerial foundation.
During 34 years in the corporate sector, he held pivotal operational and leadership roles in distinguished organisations such as CEAT Limited, Michelin, Bajaj Auto, Procter & Gamble, and Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited across India and Singapore. His cross-sector exposure spans Tyres, Automotive, FMCG, and Building Materials, where he led initiatives in supply chain transformation, procurement excellence, project management, and operational efficiency enhancement.
Since 2018, his professional focus has extended to consulting engagements with start-ups and SMEs in logistics network design, inventory optimisation, distribution requirement planning, structured negotiation processes, and audit-driven system improvements. He is also a Visiting Faculty at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and mentors and instructs pre-incubates through the Gopalakrishnan Deshpande Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at IIT Madras, using principles of lean through the customer discovery process.
Across his professional journey, he has continuously challenged the status quo be it in Inventory Modelling, Demand Forecasting, Cost-to-Serve solution analysis, pull-driven supply processes, and the institutionalisation of best practices such as S&OP, GMP, MRP, and Master Production Scheduling. His enduring commitment lies in building agile, resilient, and technology-enabled supply chains while shaping future-ready management professionals who combine strategic thinking with operational discipline.
