HARISHMITHA VARTHINI S

Some journeys unfold quietly, until one day, you look back and marvel at how far you've come. For S Harishmitha Varthini of III BCom, recipient of the Best Outgoing Student Award and the prestigious Baroda Achievers Award, growth was never about becoming someone else, but about discovering who she had always been.

Entering KCW with a strong academic foundation, she preferred observing over speaking. Her second year became a turning point. What began with paper presentations soon blossomed into a passion for research and intellectual inquiry. The spark came with her victory at Corp Quest 2025, organized by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), where she secured a cash prize.

Her work on themes such as AI and ML in Startups, Sustainable Fashion Enterprises, and Data-driven Insurance earned her multiple Best Paper Awards at national and international conferences. Alongside publishing five papers in ISBN journals, research did not merely become her strength; it became her signature. She authored โ€œQUICK BITS: The World in 2025,โ€ a current affairs yearbook born out of consistency and curiosity. As the Secretary of the Department of Commerce and an NCC cadet, she discovered that leadership need not be loud to leave a lasting impact.

She fondly credits her class tutor, the Department of Commerce, her parents, friends, and her fellow Go-Getters, whose unwavering support shaped every chapter of her journey.

For Harishmitha, these accolades are reminders that some of the most beautiful transformations happen quietly. And as she believes,

"Everything will be fine in the end. If everything is not fine, it's not the end."

โ€œThe ocean never fears its depth, and neither should we fear our dreams.โ€

KP Nithika, a student of II MSc Zoology, has steadily carved a path for herself in the field of marine biology through determination, initiative, and a passion for research.

Driven by her interest in marine life, Nithika independently approached the Zoological Survey of India, Chennai, where she worked under Dr. Bineesh K. K. at the Marine Biology Regional Centre. Her research focused on sharks and guitarfishes, involving morphometric and biological analyses.

Recognizing her dedication, her professors recommended her for an opportunity at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa. There, under the guidance of Dr. Karnan Chinnadurai in the Biological Oceanography Division, she gained valuable research experience in oceanographic studies. During her tenure at NIO, she also participated in the WOSC Conference, where she presented a literature review based on her work.

Adding an international dimension to her research journey, Nithika later collaborated with GPER, France-based NGO that represented her work at Sharks International 2026 in Sri Lanka. At the conference, she contributed to research on the endangered Spinetail Devil Ray alongside Nicolas Ziani, from GPER, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, and the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography, Japan. She also became a member of the Indian Shark & Ray Network.

Reflecting on her achievements, Nithika expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Zoology, PhD scholar M. Miruthulaa, and her family, especially her mother, for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout her journey.

To everyone reading this, Nithika encourages people to step beyond their comfort zone and explore fearlessly, just like the ocean itself. โ€œBeyond every wave is a new beginning.โ€

For CQMS. SS. Ranjithpriya of III BSc Botany, SGT. M. Vaishnavi of II BSc Chemistry, CPL. S. Aadhirai of II BSc Zoology, and CPL. A. Keerthana A of II BA Economics, the journey to the Tamil Nadu State Republic Day Camp 2026 began with a shared admiration for the NCC service and a desire to serve the nation. Selected through rigorous inter-group competitions, they earned their place at the prestigious Marina RDC held in Chennai at the MGR Centenary Arch.

The path to the camp demanded discipline at every step. Through two rounds of selection and intensive training, their days began before sunrise and stretched late into the evening with drills, march past practice, and continuous preparation. Along the way, inspiring interactions with officers strengthened their confidence and reminded them of the purpose behind every challenge.

At the camp, the cadets took part in the ceremonial march past and had the honour of saluting the Honourable Chief Minister and Governor during the Republic Day celebrations. One of their most memorable experiences was contributing to the recording of the โ€œVande Mataramโ€ song alongside fellow cadets, creating a moment of unity that stayed with them beyond the parade ground.

They credit Major Dr. Kavitha, their seniors, co-cadets, the 5 TN Girls Battalion and officers, Kovai Group, and their department staff for guiding and supporting them throughout the journey. Together, they believe that โ€œhard work, discipline, and unity can create extraordinary results.โ€ Though each of them carries different dreams, they remain connected by one common aspiration, to serve the nation with pride and purpose.
