NIC 2026 → Building the Pipeline for NED 2026

As NIC 2026 entered its final stretch, teams worked in intense sprint mode—refining solutions with inputs from experts, mentors, and systems advisors. The focus: achieving NED-grade, implementation-ready outcomes.

In the Valedictory, 21 inter-institutional teams presented before 19 jury members across 6 panels, evaluated on validation, feasibility, scalability, and regional relevance—mirroring NED 2026 evaluation lenses.

From field immersion to solution architecture, NIC transformed district challenges into policy-aware innovation narratives. Winning teams will now take their solutions forward to NED 2026 (Feb 6–8), engaging with policymakers, industry leaders, and ecosystem stakeholders.

NIC reinforces a core belief: meaningful economic dialogue must be built on validated problems, field insights, and systems-driven solutions.

After completing their field visits and gaining first-hand insights from the ground, student teams are now applying systems thinking to work on the district’s priority challenges:

1. Tourism & carrying capacity management
2. Solid and wet waste management
3. Invasive species mapping
4. Tribal livelihoods & market access
5. Regulated use of heavy machinery
6. Geo-spatial risk scoring for construction approvals

With continuous inputs from domain experts, teams are being guided to look beyond surface-level fixes and move toward practical, implementable solutions. These expert interactions are helping students refine their approach, validate assumptions, and identify clear pathways forward.

Teams are fully immersed — hacking through the day, iterating on ideas, and steadily progressing toward solutions that can work in the real world.

This phase marks a critical shift from understanding the problem to building solutions with impact.

System Thinking workshop Solving systemic challenges requires more than good ideas — it demands a clear view of the entire ecosystem. When we work on real-world problems, understanding the big picture is critical: the environment, the people involved, the processes in place, and the regulatory frameworks that shape outcomes. These systems are often complex and difficult to visualise, especially for first-time innovators. In the session, Vanitha Shankar helped student innovators break through this complexity by introducing structured systems thinking and holistic lenses to view real-world ecosystems. Participants learned how different elements within a system interact — and how solutions must operate within real constraints. The session enabled students to:

1. Think in terms of systems, not isolated problems 2. Ask the right questions to domain experts
3. Understand data, information, and technology in context
4. Validate solutions against real-world constraints

By grounding innovation in systems thinking, students are better equipped to design solutions that are not only creative, but practical, scalable, and implementable. This is how we move from ideas to impact.

Dr. Lakshmi Meera, Chief Program Officer, Forge Academy, introduced the NIC Innovation framework and spoke about aligning the right players, right problem, right prototype, and right pitch.

Dr. Saravanan, Director of KI, shared KI’s commitment to eco-friendly practices and responsible innovation.

The session concluded with Tmt. Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru , IAS, District Collector of Nilgiris, who emphasized clean ideas, strong logic, and ethical innovation to address tourism pressure, sustainability, and ecosystem balance.

History Made in Qatar! 🇮🇳

Team ReNew Secures Podium Finish at Shell Eco-Marathon!

From KCT Garage at Kumaraguru to the global tracks of Doha, our students have proved that innovation knows no boundaries.

We are excited to announce that Team ReNew has secured the THIRD POSITION at the 41st Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific 2026!

Driving India’s First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Prototype to a podium finish, this student-led team battled against top universities from across the Asia-Pacific region at the Lusail International Circuit.

Beyond building a car, their journey was about 10 months of relentless grit, engineering excellence, and turning setbacks into a sustainable victory.

Why this matters:
🔹 Peak Efficiency: Clocking 277km / m³ on a clean hydrogen fuel cell.
🔹 Innovation: Inspired by the Kingfisher’s beak for aerodynamics.
🔹 Sustainability: Built with eco-friendly basalt fibre composites to reduce weight.
🔹 Resilience: Overcoming technical hurdles to champion green mobility on a world stage.

To the entire 14 Member crew—you have put Indian engineering on the global map. You have turned constraints into confidence and ideas into impact.
Let’s celebrate our champions!
