வரலாற்றில் இன்று - ஜூன் 1, 1971 - தமிழ்நாடு வேளாண் பல்கலைக் கழகம் நிறுவப்பட்டது. 1868ம் ஆண்டு சென்னை சைதாப்பேட்டையில் துவக்கப்பட்ட வேளாண் பள்ளி 1906ம் ஆண்டு கோவை நகருக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டு வேளாண் கல்லூரியானது. இதுவே பின்னர் 1971ம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் முதல் நாள் தமிழ்நாடு வேளாண் பல்கலைக் கழகமாக தரம் உயர்த்தப்பட்டது. தற்போது இப்பல்கலைக் கழகமானது உயர்தர வேளாண் கல்வி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சியில் சர்வதேச அளவில் புகழ்பெற்று விளங்குகிறது. வேளாண் கல்வி, பயிற்சி, ஆராய்ச்சி மற்றும் விரிவாக்கம் போன்ற பல்வேறு துறைகளிலும் மாணவர்களுக்கும் மக்களுக்கும் ஒரு வழிகாட்டியாகத் திகழ்கிறது
