We are truly delighted to share that our esteemed Principal, Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, has been granted another term of five years to lead Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi. This news has brought immense joy to the entire college community, our teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and alumni alike. There is a shared sense of pride and excitement across the campus as we look forward to continuing this journey under his dynamic leadership.

Prof. Kar Sir is not just an administrator but a visionary academic leader. With a remarkable ability to recognize talent and assign responsibilities strategically, he has cultivated a professional culture that is both inclusive and result-oriented. His leadership is characterized by humility, innovation, and a relentless focus on excellence.

A staunch supporter of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, Prof. Kar has played a pioneering role in implementing NEP both at the personal and institutional levels. Under his guidance, Shyam Lal College has taken bold and thoughtful steps to give NEP a concrete and meaningful shape. SLC(University of Delhi) Shyam Lal College organized a talk on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas under the stewardship of Principal, Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar Sir. Shri Vaibhav Surange, social worker at Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram remained present on the occasion as the Chief Guest and Speaker. SLC (University of Delhi) Shyam Lal College celebrated its 60th Annual Day & Prize Distribution Function on Wednesday i.e. May 1, 2024.

Prof. A. C. Pandey, Chairman, Inter University Accelerator Center (IUAC), New Delhi graced the function with his benign presence as Chief Guest and Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi remained present at the function as Guest of Honor. Ms. Savita Gupta, Chairperson, SLC Governing Body could not attend the function due to some unforeseen reasons but sent her best wishes. Shri P. K. Mishra, Treasurer, Governing Body SLC was also present at the function.

The function commenced with an inspiring address by the esteemed Principal, Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar. In his speech, Prof. Kar reflected on the journey of Shyam Lal College over the past six decades, emphasizing the institution's commitment to academic excellence, holistic development, and societal impact. He highlighted the achievements of the college in various domains, including academic performance, research endeavors, and community engagement.

SLC(University of Delhi) Shyam Lal College's Ambedkar Study Circle in collaboration with Delhi University's Department of African Studies organized an international conference on " Ambedkar's Perspective on Dynamics of Indian Economy: A Way Towards Viksit Bharat @2047" on 15-16 April, 2024. Thanks to our dynamic leader, mentor and guide Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar Sir! Its only due to his unconditional support and hand-holding that we could realize the event of this scale. Thanks are also due to Prof. Kusha Tiwari Ma'am, Convenor, IQAC for her meticulous guidance. Efforts put in by the organizing team under Convenor Dr. Triveni Batham Ma'am's leadership are indeed commendable.

At the inaugural session of the conference we had the luck of hosting luminaries like Hon'ble Shri Ramnath Kovind Ji, Former President of India and Prof. Yogesh Singh Ji, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University. We are also lucky to have been graced by the August presence of Prof. Balaram Pani Ji, Dean of Colleges, Prof. Vikas Gupta Ji, Registrar, Prof. Gajendra Singh Ji, Head, Department of African Studies, Prof. Neena Shireesh Jain Ma'am, SLC.

The insightful observations made by Hon'ble Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji and Prof. Yogesh Singh Ji on the less explored or talked about contributions of Dr. Babasaheb Ambekar in India's various economic fields were indeed enlightening to the audience at the inaugural session.

At the valedictory session, Shri Prafulla Ketkar Ji, Editor, Organiser Weekly and Prof. Badri Narayan, Director, G B Pant Institute of Social Sciences enlightened the gathering of young students, research scholars and teachers with their deeper insights into Dr. Ambedkar's economic thoughts and vision. More than 80 research papers were presented at various plenary sessions and students' conclaves of the conference.

SLC(University of Delhi) Shyam Lal College’s Ambedkar Study Circle in collaboration with the Department of African Studies, University of Delhi is organizing two days’ international conference entitled “Ambedkar’s Perspective on Dynamics of Indian Economy: A Way towards Viksit Bharat @2047.” The inaugural session of the conference held at Delhi University’s Conference Center was attended by Hon'ble Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Former President of India as the Chief Guest. Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi presided over the inaugural session. Prof. Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges, Prof. Vikas Gupta, Registrar, Prof. Gajendra Singh, Head, Department of African Studies, Prof. Neena Shireesh, Shyam Lal College were also present at the session.

The conference is being meticulously organized because of the guidance, help and support of Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal, SLC. Dr. Triveni, Convener of the Conference and Ambedkar Study Circle, and her team are extremely crucial in translating Principal Porf. Kar’s vision to hold a conference on the economic thoughts and vision of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The inaugural session began with the National Anthem and the Kulgeet of Delhi University. Thereupon, the guests lightened up the lamps in front of Goddess Saraswati’s idol and paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.

Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal, SLC in his welcome address expressed gratitude towards the Chief Guest Shri Ram Nath Kovind and Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University for taking their valuable time out of their extremely busy schedule. In his welcome address Principal Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar highlighted the relevance of the Conference's theme. He maintained that the two days's conference will host galaxy of speakers who will deliberate on Dr. Ambekar's economic thoughts and vision.

Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi presided over the inaugural session. In his presidential address he observed that Dr. Ambedkar’s role in the nation building is immense. Highlighting on the book entitled ‘The Thoughts on Pakistan or the Partition of India’, he maintained that Dr. Ambekar's thinking was rooted in the pragmatic understanding of national security and nation building. Further, he informed the audience that Dr. Ambekar was primarily a trained economist having studied at London School of Economics and Columbia University apart from being a jurist, constitutionalist, thinker, educationist, social reformist, and politician. Dr. Ambedkar, he said, has left indelible impression on the economic thinking of India.

Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Former President of India remained present at the inaugural session of the two days’ international conference as the Chief Guest. In his address, Shri Kovind reflected on the multifarious contributions of Dr. Ambedkar in raising the strong foundations of newly independent Indian nation. He informed the audience of the childhood difficulties that Dr. Ambedkar had had to go through because of the ill practice of untouchability prevalent in Indian society in those days. Further, he also shed light on Dr. Ambedkar’s lasting impact on the labor policies. Not only that, he also played an important role in improving the status of women. He informed the audience that Dr. Ambedkar deeply deliberated on the issues of agriculture and irrigation in terms of making India self-sufficient with respect to its nutritive needs. Dr. Ambedkar was keenly interested in extending rights to women citizens as he believed that their empowerment was necessary for the country's overall growth and development. In conclusion he said, we need to look up to Dr. Ambedkar’s life, thoughts and actions in improving the status of downtrodden in the country, for our national security, conducting foreign policy and economic vision for the Viksit Bharat.

SLC(University of Delhi) Shyam Lal College organizes Umang 6.0 East Delhi Pushpamahotsav-2024

East Delhi Pushpamohatsav (Umang 6.0) is organized on the sprawling campus of SLC(University of Delhi) Shyam Lal College. The event is being organized for 6 years in a row under the ablest guidance of Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal SLC.

Umang 6.0 had the gracious presence of Smt. Savita Gupta, Chairperson, Governing Body, SLC. Shri P K Mishra, Former ADGP, BSF too remained present as a guest of honor on the occasion. Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar along with the faculty members of the Garden Committee, SAP, Eco Club and Non-Performing Fine Arts showed the guest the flowers to the guest.

The Pushpamohotsava was inaugurated by Smt. Savita Gupta with traditional lighting of lamp in front of Goddess Saraswati’s idol. Thereafter the guests were welcome by Prof. Kar by presenting them with flowers and idol of Lord Ram. SLC’s students also presented many goners of traditional performances as token of welcoming the guests.

Umang 6.0 attracted many nurseries such as Rajesh Nursery, Shyam Bihari Nursery from Mandoli, Delhi who showcased many varieties of flowers tended by them. Also, S R Capital Public School, Mohan Park, Shahdara showcased the flowers along with organic rangoli colours. SLC’s Eco-Club and NSS student members also had set up stalls of homemade organic products. SLC, in its efforts to introduce organic and eco-friendly life style products, has been constantly encouraging its students to take part in such initiatives.

The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) team of SLC(University of Delhi) Shyam Lal College visited Ghitora, Dist-Baghpat, Kotwalpur and Chirodi, Dist-Ghaziabad as part of its outreach programme on the Repulic Day. Noteworthy to mention that SLC has adopted five villages in Baghpat and Ghaziabad districts of Uttar Pradesh.

SLC’s UBA team celebrated the 75th Republic Day along with students, villagers and the Gram Pradhans. The team members also interacted with young students and counselled them on upcoming board exams. They would also continue to mentor them in terms of their future career plans.

Villagers were made aware about digital literacy in terms of availing government schemes. Further, they were also told about pollutions related problems, particularly, water borne diseases.

SLC’s UBA team is planning to organize a well-structured programme to carry out the above tasks, most probably, in the month of February, 2024.
