Yesterday night, the girls’ hostel premises at Jamia Millia Islamia was breached by a group of unauthorised individuals who entered the campus and harassed female students. This shocking incident represents a serious and unacceptable failure of the university administration to ensure the safety and security of its students.

The intrusion of strangers into the girls’ hostel that is one of the most sensitive and supposedly secure spaces on campus, poses a grave threat to the safety, dignity and freedom of women students. Such a lapse cannot be treated as an isolated occurrence and it reflects a broader pattern of negligence in the university’s security arrangements. While hostel authorities and guards are often quick to subject female students to moral policing, the basic responsibility of safeguarding them continues to be ignored.

The offices of the Proctor and the Security Advisor have once again failed in their duty to maintain a safe and secure campus environment. Incidents of this nature demand immediate accountability and decisive action from the administration.

In light of this incident, we demand:

• Immediate registration of an FIR against the assaulters.
• A prompt and transparent investigation by a university committee into the security lapse and the events of the night.
• Immediate resignation of the Security Advisor for failing to ensure adequate campus security yet again.
• Strict monitoring and accountability of the guard staff and the overall security system of the hostel premises.

Students cannot be expected to live and study under conditions where their safety is constantly at risk. The Jamia administration must act immediately to address this failure and ensure that the safety and dignity of students are protected at al times.

Punish the War Criminals Trump and Netanyahu!

Jamia Protests against the US-Israeli Attack on Iran

On 6th March, 2026, AIRSO, along with other student organizations of Jamia Millia Islamia organised a solidarity gathering for Iran, which is resisting the imperialist war by the US-Israel nexus. The brutal attacks on Iran, including the bombing of schools, assassination of Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, exposed the inhuman, fascist character of this nexus. This is a continuation of the genocide of Palestinian people initiated by the Zionist Israel, the strategic millitary outpost of the US Imperialists. These incidents show the meaninglessness of the post-world war arrangements like the UN. Now, it is the political task of the oppressed people and countries of the world to unite against the biggest enemies of freedom, democracy and humanity, i.e., the US and Israel.

75% Attendance Policy: Yet Another Sadistic and Punitive Action Against Students to Attack their Democratic Rights

AIRSO JMI condemns the recent anti-student mandate of 75 percent attendance by the Jamia admin.

Taking yet another sadistic stance, JMI Registrar’s Office on the 20th January issued a notice stating that students will only be permitted to appear for Sessional Tests (Internal Assessments) only if their attendance is 75% or higher, effective from the current even semester (January-May 2026). This is applicable to both phases of Internal Assessments.

The new statement which comes in the long line of sadistic and punitive action has essentially turned internal assessments into meddling and micromanaging watch-posts with no regard for any difficult circumstances or even health crises that may arise in a city like Delhi or even the fact that many are outstation students who came to the university for better academic prospects.
The notice leaves much fate of the students to ambiguity. It does not provide clarification on the prospects of the students who will be denied entry to one of the internals. What shall become of their academic progression?

This poses a question to us. Should we stand by while the administration aggravates the already strained condition of higher education in the aftermath of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020? Should we not resist such unilateral and unrepresentative regulations accompanied with a lack of dialogue with the students, but a directive looking to ensure compliance?

We must realise that the absurdity of such ordinances rests in their obstinate insistence of quantitative physical presence, all the while turning a blind eye to the essential qualitative circumstances and the infrastructure development necessary for academic excellence. It is crucial that we, as students, raise our voice against the forced transformation of the university into training grounds for punctual corporate card punching. We, as students, must realise that it is our right to have time for our creative, critical, supplementary academic pursuit and our involvement in extra-curricular activities.

Resolutely Oppose the Arbitrary Suspension of Prof. Virendra Balaji Shahare

On 23rd December 2025, an Office Order from the Offg. Registrar was released to suspend Prof. Virendra Balaji Shahare, a faculty member of the Social Work Department. His suspension was based solely on a question regarding “atrocities against Muslim minorities” that was asked in the BSW examination paper on Social Issues in India. It is absolutely ridiculous and unprecedented in academic history where a professor has been suspended for a question which is fully logical and rational. Moreover, an FIR is also registered against him.

This suspension reflects the intolerance of the RSS fascists, who have already hijacked all major realms of state power, towards even the expression of the reality faced by Muslims in India. At the same time, it also exposes the anti-Muslim stance of Jamia admin, which is in fine tune with Golwalkar’s theorization of Muslims as the "Enemy No. 1." Academic freedom in public educational institutions is under severe threat as Brahmanical Hindutva fascism tightens its grip over knowledge production, critical inquiry and dissent. Universities are being transformed from spaces of learning into sites of ideological policing.

AIRSO JMI stands with Professor Virendra Balaji Shahare and demands the immediate revocation of his suspension and FIR. AIRSO JMI also appeals to the students and teachers to unite and vehemently resist these fascist moves by the administration in curbing academic freedom.

Observe Jamia Resistance Day on 15th December!

The memories of repression and resistance are completing 6 years. The day, 15th December, 2019 is unforgettable for every Jamian. Police and paramilitary forces attacked the campus, vandalized the library, and even entered girls’ toilets to assault students.

The campus rose in resistance, demanding the repeal of CAA–NRC–NPR. When resistance broke out, it was the female students of Jamia who were in the forefront who led the resistance. The entire Jamia Nagar stood up along with the students and marched to Shaheen Bagh, where the people erected tents and fought bravely to repeal these anti-Muslim, anti-people, undemocratic laws. In Shaheen Bagh also, we could see that the women of Shaheen Bagh took the lead of the movement..

On the eve of the 6th anniversary of the Jamia attack, repression continues in new forms: implementation of CAA, continued incarceration of anti-CAA activists, shrinking democratic spaces, and the branding of Jamia as “anti-national.” The political tasks before us are clear—defend democratic spaces in educational institutions, repeal UAPA and release political prisoners, repeal CAA–NRC–NPR, and ultimately overthrow fascism. These remain the enduring demands symbolized by Shaheen Bagh, and the task before us is to ensure they are fulfilled.

Thus, we wholeheartedly appeal to all the students and staff (teaching and non-teaching) to gather at Central Canteen for the Resistance March on 15th December, 2025 at 5:30PM.

Jamia Millia Islamia Cannot Become Hindutva’s Stage: Boycott the Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion's (CSSI) Shameful Event!

The Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion has committed a grave betrayal by inviting Arif Mohd Khan, the Governor of Bihar, to speak on its stage. This invitation is not an academic engagement, it is a symbolic endorsement of a figure who has consistently aligned himself with the politics of Hindutva. At a Centre that claims to teach Dalit mobilisation, minority politics, and Muslim identity politics, bringing Arif Mohd Khan is nothing short of an insult to every community the Centre pretends to stand for.

Arif Mohd Khan has repeatedly defended the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, a law widely condemned as discriminatory towards Muslims. He openly supported the Waqf amendments, furthering the state’s encroachment on minority institutions. At the Indian History Congress in 2019, he justified CAA and even targeted the protestors by misquoting Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, claiming that Partition had “taken away the dirt and left the dirty water behind.” This vulgar remark was meant to demean dissenting citizens, reducing them to “stinking water.”

This is the man that CSSI has chosen to platform, a man who stood against student protestors, who confronted the Kerala government for challenging the CAA, who used the constitutional office of Governor to push the line of the ruling regime. His presence in universities has repeatedly triggered protests and walkouts, yet our own faculty appear eager to garland him with legitimacy.

What does this say about the state of Indian academia? The same professors of CSSI who lecture about exclusion, discrimination, and Hindutva’s authoritarianism in classrooms are now opening their doors to its representatives in practice. This is hypocrisy of the highest order, the type that is slowly becoming a common disease in universities across India. By inviting Arif Mohd Khan, the CSSI has turned itself into a gateway for Hindutva to enter the campus under the cover of “academic dialogue.”

Jamia Millia Islamia Students Oppose the Brutal Attack and Arrest of Students, who Protested for Clean Air in Delhi

The people of Delhi are facing a very critical condition due to the unprecedentedly degrading air quality in Delhi. The AQI has crossed 500-600, making it hazardous to breathe in Delhi. Health issues are plaguing our children and elderly, yet the government remains indifferent. In this condition, the Delhi Coordination Committee for Clean Air had given the call for protest at India Gate at 4 pm on November 23, 2025. It seems that the government is determined to suppress every voice of citizens at any cost. Even before the protest, Com. Niranjan, a student of Jamia Millia Islamia, working with AIRSO, was forcefully detained by Delhi Police from his residence.

While the students, even after facing such impediments set by the police, gathered at India Gate to raise the issue. The continuation of a pattern of police brutality and suppression of dissent, was seen in the detention of 21 students and social activists, including women and transgender individuals, who were peacefully protesting. FIRs were filed against those 21 students, who include Kranti from Himkhand, Gurkirat, Ravjot, Rafy, etc. from bsCEM and many independent activists including Firaaq. They were produced infront of the court on 24th November, 2025 and were sent to Judicial Custody in Tihar Jail for couple of days.

The Delhi police's actions are a blatant attempt to silence our voices and maintain the status quo. It's imperative that we stand in solidarity with the detained students and demand their immediate release. We urge everyone to join us in this struggle for clean air and democratic rights.

Let us unite and fight against the oppressive machinery of the state and the corporate interests it serves. The fight for clean air is a fight for our very existence, and we will not be silenced.

The government's actions today are a stark reminder of its intolerance towards dissent. The right to protest, raise slogans, and criticize the government is a fundamental right enshrined in our Constitution. However, the government is not only suppressing these rights but also criminalizing them.

The police's brutal actions, registration of FIRs, collection of finger prints, and biometric data are all tactics to intimidate and silence us. We, the students and citizens of India, will not be intimidated.

We, the students of Jamia Millia Islamia, condemn this brutal repression and demand:

- Immediate release of all arrested students
- Withdrawal of FIRs against students
- End to police brutality and repression on people's movements

Wherever the regime shows its authoritarian nature, the students of Jamia Millia Islamia will stand against them. The government may try to silence us, but we will not be silenced.

Down with authoritarianism!
Long live the spirit of resistance!
No to police brutality!
Free all detained students!

Security Advisor Office Gherao!

We demand *Immediate Termination of Security Advisor* and *Public Apology and Action on Proctorial Team based on an Independent Inquiry*

On 19th September, 2025, a March was organized in Jamia to remember the 19 years of Batla House “Encounter”. The students, including those who participated in the march and many other common students were brutally attacked by the security team, under the instruction of the Security Advisor and the Proctorial Team. Female students were dragged through roads and were thrown into the hands of the Delhi Police. It is clear that the security advisor, an ex-policeman, has transformed the security team into an appendage of the Delhi Police. Thus, putting forward the demands of 1) Immediate Termination of Security Advisor and 2) Public Apology and Action on Proctorial Team based on an Independent Inquiry, the students of Jamia organized a massive protest march from Central Canteen, on 22nd September, 2025.

Three times, Memorandum was given to the Vice Chancellor through DSW. But no action was taken and the Security Advisor is roaming around the campus freely. The deadlines are over. Thus, hundreds students of Jamia, under the leadership of AIRSO, AISA, CRJD, DISSC, Disha, Fraternity Movement, etc. organized a Gherao of the Security Advisor Office, on 16th October, marching from Hygienic Canteen. The security advisor fled from the campus hearing the news of the gherao. The administration is not ready to initiate a talk with the students but are putting allegations of disruption of the peaceful environment of the campus.

The insecurity of getting disappeared is growing in the campus. We can see it as a continuation of events in different universities around the country. Yesterday, it was Najeeb, in JNU, today we are facing it and tomorrow, it can be you also. But we are not ready to tolerate any of the nasty tactics to suppress our movement. We won’t step back till our demands are fulfilled. In the coming days, we will intensify the protests raising our demands.
