SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) is a voluntary movement founded in 1977 by Dr Kiran Seth, a Professor at IIT-Delhi who was awarded the ‘Padma Shri’ for his contribution to the arts in 2009. SPICMACAY’s intention is to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the
young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it. It seeks to inspire youth through experiencing the mysticism embodied in the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry of Indian and World Heritage, with a hope that the beauty, grace, values and wisdom embodied in these arts will influence their way of life and thinking and inspire one to become a better human being.For this, the most accomplished artistes of the country render programmes of Indian classical music and dance, folk, poetry, theatre, traditional paintings, crafts & yog primarily in schools and colleges. In 2011, SPIC MACAY was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana award in recognition of its contribution to youth development. With its volunteers and supporters,more than 11000 events were conducted in the past 2 years in 750 places across the country and abroad. SPIC MACAY is organising its 4th International Convention at the Indian Institute of Technology - Guwahati(IIT-G) in Guwahati from 9th May to 15th May 2016, where about 2500 participants will gather from all over the country and abroad to rededicate themselves to this voluntary movement. At this week-long event, over 300 artistes would be participating from different parts of the country. There would be performances of classical music & dance, folk, theatre and talks by several inspiring & eminent artistes. We would also be having intensives and workshops conducted by inspiring gurus and master craftsmen. InterNational Conventions are the congregation of the people associated with this Noble Cause, who spend one week in a unique ashram-like atmosphere. The Annual Convention is a unique experience where participants get to witness great artists performing classical music & dance, folk and theatre.
