National Institute of Disaster Management successfully concluded the 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 on 10th July, 2026 at Delhi Campus. The programme brought together participants from 16 States/UTs across India, with the objective of strengthening institutional & individual capacities for Disaster Risk Reduction ( ), resilience building, and effective training methodologies. National Institute of Disaster Management had the privilege of welcoming a distinguished 74 delegations from Sri Lanka and Nigeria facilitated by National Centre for Good Governance, Government of India ( ) for an exposure visit and enriching engagement focused on disaster risk management, governance, and institutional capacity building and role of NIDM on 9th July, 2026.

🔸𝗖𝗼𝗹. 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮, 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, welcomed the delegates and inaugurated the programme.

🔸𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗶 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻, 𝗛𝗼𝗗, 𝗥𝗜𝗗, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, highlighted the significance of international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and collaborative learning in strengthening disaster resilience.

🔸The programme featured a series of insightful technical sessions covering key aspects of disaster management. 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗸𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱𝗶, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠 delivered a presentation on the Disaster Management Institutional Framework in India, followed by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗺𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗸, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, who highlighted the role of NIDM in strengthening disaster management in India.

🔸𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗵𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗿, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, shared insights on Financial Strategies for Disaster Management, while 𝗠𝘀. 𝗡𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗮 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻, 𝗜𝗣𝗥𝗢, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, showcased Digital Learning Initiatives that are enhancing capacity building in the disaster management sector.

🔸The sessions concluded with 𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵𝗶, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, who spoke on integrating Disaster Risk Reduction ( ) principles into Village Panchayat Development Plans, emphasizing the importance of mainstreaming resilience at the grassroots level.

The National Institute of Disaster Management ( ) had the privilege of hosting 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗡𝗶𝗹𝗸𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗦. 𝗔𝘃𝗵𝗮𝗱, 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆, National Disaster Management Authority, India ( ), for an interaction session with the faculty members and staff of the institute on 7th July, 2026 at Delhi Campus.

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:

🔹 The session commenced with a Welcome Address by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘂𝗽 𝗩𝘆𝗮𝘀, 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, who welcomed the distinguished guests and reiterated NIDM's commitment to strengthening disaster risk reduction and capacity building across the country.

🔹 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the Institute's mandate under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, its academic and training initiatives, national and international capacity-building programmes, research activities, e-learning platforms, mainstreaming of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) across Ministries, and other key achievements in advancing disaster resilience.

🔹 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗡𝗶𝗹𝗸𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗦. 𝗔𝘃𝗵𝗮𝗱, appreciated NIDM for organizing the interaction and commended the Institute's contribution to disaster management capacity building. He emphasized that effective disaster management begins with the right attitude, preparedness, and mindset, especially in a diverse country like India. Describing the mainstream administration as the backbone of disaster management, he appreciated NIDM's training ecosystem—from the Panchayati Raj level to international programmes—and stressed the need to further strengthen capacity building for SDMAs, DDMAs, Central Ministries, and other government departments to build a more resilient nation.

The interaction was also attended by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗡𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗵, 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿 (𝗣𝗣 & 𝗖𝗕𝗧), 𝗡𝗗𝗠𝗔, along with the faculty members and staff of NIDM. The session provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening institutional collaboration, and reaffirming the shared commitment of NIDM and NDMA towards enhancing disaster preparedness and resilience across the country.

The Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management ( ) as technical support, successfully conducted a two-day 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 "𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀" on 02–03 July, 2026 at DDU SIRD, Lucknow. The programme focused on strengthening Uttar Pradesh's preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season. A total of 103 participants from government departments, SDMs, technical institutions, , , Fire Services, IMD, and district-level disaster management experts participated in the programme.

The inaugural session was graced by 𝗦𝗺𝘁. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:

🔸𝗗𝗿. 𝗞. 𝗛. 𝗩. 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗮 𝗥𝗮𝗼 highlighted the role of satellite remote sensing and space-based technologies in hazard mapping, disaster risk management, and decision support.

🔸𝗗𝗿. 𝗝. 𝗩. 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 presented India's expanding Earth Observation programme, emphasizing the integration of space-, aerial-, and ground-based systems for disaster management.

🔸𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘂𝗽 𝗩𝘆𝗮𝘀 underscored the importance of remote sensing, GIS, and satellite communication in strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience.

🔸𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗵𝗮𝗻 showcased NRSC's geospatial support for flood forecasting, lightning detection, damage assessment, and informed decision-making.

🔸𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿 discussed disaster risk management fundamentals, emerging technologies, and early warning systems.

🔸𝗗𝗿. 𝗔. 𝗩. 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝘂 demonstrated near real-time flood mapping and geospatial applications for hazard assessment.

🔸𝗗𝗿. 𝗔. 𝗔𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘆𝘂𝗹𝘂 explained urban flood modelling to enhance city-level flood preparedness.

The programme has brought together participants from 17 States and UTs across India to strengthen capacities for disaster risk reduction and resilience. The 12-day programme is being coordinated by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗮 𝗚𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, and 𝗗𝗿. 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠.

🔸In his inaugural address, 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗵𝘂𝗽 𝗩𝘆𝗮𝘀, 𝗜𝗔𝗦, 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, emphasised the importance of developing a cadre of skilled master trainers to advance disaster risk reduction and resilience through effective capacity-building initiatives across the country.

𝗚𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, followed by a Programme Overview and Context Setting by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿, who highlighted the increasing need for effective lightning risk management, scientific understanding, and district-level preparedness.

▶️ The programme was formally inaugurated by 𝗖𝗼𝗹. 𝗣. 𝗦. 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆, 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, who underscored the importance of scientific knowledge, early warning systems, and coordinated institutional action in minimising lightning-related fatalities and building resilient communities.

▶️ Over the course of four days, participants attended expert-led technical sessions covering key aspects of lightning risk mitigation, including the fundamentals of disaster management and lightning science; lightning risk and vulnerability assessment; early warning systems and last-mile alert dissemination; structural and non-structural mitigation measures; institutional coordination and funding mechanisms; and the preparation of District Lightning Action Plans. The programme also featured practical exercises, group presentations, and field-based learning to enhance participants' practical understanding and application of the concepts.

▶️ The Valedictory Session commenced with a welcome address by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗥𝗼𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗡𝗜𝗗𝗠, followed by a presentation on the programme outcomes and key takeaways by 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵. Delivering the valedictory address, 𝗖𝗼𝗹. 𝗣. 𝗦. 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆 encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained to strengthen district-level preparedness and community resilience against lightning hazards. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants, followed by a Vote of Thanks by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗚𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮.

The National Institute of Disaster Management ( ) in collaboration with the IIM Lucknow successfully concluded the 4-Day Face-to-Face 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 held from 22–25 June, 2026 at Delhi Campus. The programme brought together experts and practitioners to deliberate on financial strategies, institutional mechanisms, and resilient infrastructure for strengthening disaster risk reduction in India.
