Secretary's Report at the AGT presented on Sunday, 5th February, 2012 :
SECRETARY’S REPORT
Today on the occasion of this annual get-together when the term of the present executive body of Alumni Association is coming to an end on completion of three years, I present you the Secretary’s report for the year gone by.
Last year the Annual get-together was organized on February 6th. The event was graced by many of our illustrious alumni. To name a few we had amongst us Shri Pallav Bagla, Chief Editor (Science) NDTV from the Media. It was a pleasure to host the congregation of senior Government officials such as Shri B.K. Singh, DIG with the elite NSG, Addl. Commissioner (Income Tax) Shri Aroop Kr. Singh, Director General Postal Services, Shri Rajesh Singh, Addl. Commissioner (Income Tax), Shri Yogendra Choudhary and Superintendent of Police, CBI, Shri Dinendra Kashyup. Another Hansarian from the field of judiciary, Shri Rajesh Kumar Goel, District Sessions Judge was also present. All these dignitaries were honored by the Alumni Association followed by the cultural evening which had an impressive gathering of about 400 guests. Later, the students of the college music society SWRANJALI enthralled the audience with their electrifying performance.
Last year the Alumni Association had instituted an award for the top two outstanding differently-abled student in the last academic year. We take pride in announcing the names of the two differently-abled students Shri Deepak Kushwaha and Shri Roshan Kumar Prashad who are the first beneficiaries of this scheme. The scheme comprises cash rewards of Rs.5000/- and Rs.3000/- respectively. Here we would like to thank Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma from Hindi Department who spared his valuable time to be the jury for the same.
In the year gone by, our college bid farewell to six faculty members on their superannuation after having completed their long innings. They were Shri J.P. Pruthi from Department of Maths, Shri M.N. Arora and Shri S.K. Jain from Department of Commerce and Dr. Mangal Nath, Dr.V.K. Ahuja and Dr.R.K. Trikha from Department of Chemistry. With five departures last year and three this year, the chemistry of Hansraj has certainly undergone an irreversible reaction. Their notable contributions to this institute would long be remembered with reverence.
The year also gave us the saddest moment in the demise of the doyen of the education field, our ex-principal and the Chairman of DAV, Padma Bhushan Shri G.P.Chopra. With his contributions in the field of education, he had raised the bar so high that it now serves as a benchmark for us. We also take on record the sad demise of one of our retired faculty member Shri H.R. Gulati from the Department of Physics. During the past year, two of the non-teaching staff Shri Sandeep and Shri Hari Charan also left for the heavenly abode. We pray to the almighty for resting their souls in peace and give ample strength to their near and dear ones to cope with this irreparable loss.
But as we have this concept of 'ongoing concern' in Commerce, we also added around 1000 new young members to our Alumni fraternity which takes the total Alumni strength to more than 9000 and I take this opportunity to warmly welcome them in our Alumni Association.
Though the term of the current Executive Committee has come to an end, the new Executive Committee would also have the challenge of meeting the expectations of the ever-growing members of the Alumni Association. We have amongst us many alumni who had the opportunity of doing higher studies at the world’s best universities. We can certainly learn from their experiences to bring improvements in our functioning and add value to our Alma mater. However all of this require funds. So I would once again appeal to all our Alumni members to come forward and donate generously.
I can not conclude my report without thanking the Executive Committee, our principal and the college authorities who have contributed in their own ways towards various activities carried out by Alumni Association. I am confident that our Alumni Association would be able to achieve all its goals. At last I pray to the Almighty for the growth and prosperity of all our Alumni members and our beloved Alma Mater.
