Dastaan Dastaan is the Art and Architecture society of Jesus and Mary College! https://youtube.com/channel/UC3CXnO9_wMi86Wl1XeRQjaw Come join us. Be a part of this nexus!

Dastaan is a platform for all those, curious about Delhi’s glorious heritage, which is a synthesis of diverse cultures, blended perfectly to come to exist as the ‘Dilli’ we know and love. Dilli is not just the home of the Dilwale, it’s also where the old and new coexist in perfect harmony. Lutyens city and Chandni Chowk are all assimilated into the patchwork quilt that constitutes Delhi’s identity

. The past cannot be separated from the present, they are inextricably linked. We need to gradually fade away the line of distinction between the past and the present, which are ingrained in our minds. To love and appreciate art and culture, one need not necessarily be of a social science background. This society hopes to draw people not only from different courses in the college, but from different colleges as well, so as to create a forum open for a large group of people all interested in sharing their thoughts, ideas and experiences with others who are interested.

Old Delhi isn’t a place; it’s a feeling. Spent the day with tracing the soul of Chandni Chowk , from the poetic silence of Ghalib ki Haveli to the grand arches of Fatehpuri Masjid. 🕌
We walked through history, got lost in the vibrant chaos of bangle shopping, and ended it all by devouring the local flavors of the Walled City. 🍢💎
The Itinerary:
• Poetry: Mirza Ghalib’s legacy.
• Spirit: Fatehpuri’s timeless architecture.
• Colors: Stacks of glass bangles.
• Taste: Authentic Old Delhi street food.

As part of Montage ’26 – Dastaan @ Utsav, we invite you to participate in:

📸 THE ONLINE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

This year, we call upon photographers and visual storytellers to explore the layered realities of Delhi through two compelling themes:

🌆 THEMES

• Life in Lanes
Step into the narrow streets where the true rhythm of the city unfolds. Capture everyday moments — shopkeepers at work, fleeting conversations, textured walls, children playing, local vendors, silent pauses between chaos. Focus on the ordinary that often goes unnoticed, yet defines the spirit of the city.

• Old Meets New
Delhi is a city of contrasts. Centuries-old monuments stand beside metro lines and glass buildings. Through your lens, explore how history and modernity coexist - whether in harmony, tension, or quiet dialogue.

📜 COMPETITION GUIDELINES
• Participants must fill out the registration form with their details.
• The form will remain open till 21st February 2026, 11:59 PM.*
• This is a photo story competition - entries must clearly depict one of the given themes.
• Submissions must include 3 to 5 sequenced photographs.
• Each entry must be accompanied by a 200-word caption explaining the narrative and intent behind the series.
• Results will be declared on the official Dastaan page on 23rd February during the event, and winners will be featured on the page.

🌙 MEHFIL-i-SHEHER
The Bilingual Poetry Competition

A city is more than monuments and skylines — it is a living gathering. Every street holds conversations, every wall remembers, and every corner carries stories of belonging, longing, transformation, and shared existence.
Mehfil-i-Sheher invites you to bring these stories to life through your words. Whether personal, reflective, or observational, your poetry should capture the spirit of the city as a collective experience — a space where memories linger and everyday moments quietly become history.
If you have ever felt connected to a place, witnessed change in your surroundings, or found meaning in ordinary urban moments — this mehfil is yours.

• Subject Line: “Mehfil-i-Sheher” (for shortlisting purposes)

When history speaks, sometimes it whispers… sometimes it haunts. 🕯️

Our recent talk with Eric Chopra a public historian, writer, podcaster, and author of Ghosted: Delhi’s Haunted Monuments took us deep into Delhi’s otherworldly past. From Firoz Shah Kotla to Lal Darwaza and Sultanpur, we explored how ruins become repositories of memory, fear, folklore, and unfinished histories.

Through urban legends, archival traces, and public memory, the session unpacked what it really means when monuments are called “haunted”, and how these stories reveal our complex relationship with the past.

An afternoon where history refused to stay silent, and the ghosts had stories to tell.
