Development Study Group (DSG) is a student chapter of the Faculty of Economics at South Asian University. The group mainly aims to bring together its vibrant cosmopolitan community of scholars from across the South Asia to facilitate an active exchange of ideas outside the realms of class room. The fortnightly panel discussions, movie screenings, book reviews and various group discussions extend t

he ideas which the students are exposed to in the classrooms, in order to understand current economic and political realities of the contemporary world. The guiding principle of the DSG group is identifying the 'pluarlism' in economic ideologies and using these various economic perspectives to understand the 'problem of development' in developing economies (focusing on South Asia). The Faculty of Economics offers a Masters program in Development Economics and a PhD programe in Economics, which is unique in the SAARC region. The Faculty exposes the students to the intellectual breadth, theoretical rigour, and empirical skills that are necessary for advanced research and teaching in the field of Development Economics, as well as to work in international and national development agencies that are opening up fast within and outside the SAARC region. With a vibrant community of scholars and students from all over South Asia, the Faculty strives to emerge as a major center in this field in the region. program in Development Economics and a PhD program currently on offer, the faculty is planning to launch and an undergraduate program in the near future. Apart from a well-stocked library with access to a wide range of electronic resources and a state-of-the-art computer laboratory, the Faculty is also in the process of building up a comprehensive documentation and reference center with special emphasis on the SAARC region.
