Greetings from the UGC Centre for Women's Studies, Dibrugarh University!

It gives us immense pleasure to apprise you that a series of programmes have been jointly organised by the UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University and Akam Foundation to commemorate the One Billion Rising, 2024.

On this occasion, you are cordially invited to a Public Lecture on “Towards Feminist Future: Cross Movement Solidarity Building” to be delivered by Abha Bhaiya, a pioneer feminist activist and founding member of Jagori Delhi and Jagori Rural Charitable Trust, Himachal Pradesh on 4 April 2024 at 3 P.M at the Conference Hall, UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University.

One Billion Rising, started on Valentine's Day 2012, is one of the biggest worldwide mass movements to end violence against women. According to staggering statistic, 1 in 3 women is beaten or r***d during lifetime and with the world population at 7 billion, this sums up to more than ONE MILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Every year, every survivor rises from the violence they faced. People across the globe express their rise from the violence through various activities like dance, drama etc. and celebrate the fact that they have not been defeated by this violence

The UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University organised a week-long series of activities to mark the International Women’s Day 2024.

On the Day 8, the Centre collaborated with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Dibrugarh in organizing a programme held at Sri Sri Aouniatri Satra Hall, Mancotta Road, Dibrugarh to mark the International Women’s Day 2024 on 8th March 2024. The students of the Centre sang the welcome Chorus and exhibited posters on various gender issues were also exhibited at the venue in a stall. Bikram Kairi, the District Commissioner (DC) of Dibrugarh visited the poster exhibition and interacted with the faculty members of the Centre.

The students of the Centre also performed a dance drama on domestic violence. It was followed by a session on gender sensitization by the faculty members of the Centre-Dr. Barnali Das and Debajanee Bora.

Dr. Nasmeem F. Akhtar, Director i/c, UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University participated as the resource person to deliver a talk in a programme organised by MDKG College, Dibrugarh to mark the International Women’s Day 2024 on 8th March 2024 at 10 a.m. She delivered a talk in another session organised by the Oil India Limited, Duliajan on 8th March 2024 at 1 p.m.

The UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University organised a week-long series of activities to mark the International Women’s Day 2024.

On the Day 7, on 7th March 2024 an interactive session and cultural programme was organised by the Centre for the women from various walks of life- self-help groups, third and fourth grade women employees of Dibrugarh University, and women from nearby areas of Dibrugarh University.

The UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University organised a week-long series of activities to mark the International Women’s Day 2024.

On the Day 6, a programme on gender sensitization and awareness was organised by the Centre at Lachit Sangha, Borpothar, Dibrugarh on 6th March 2024 in collaboration with NSS PG Unit, Dibrugarh University. The students performed a skit on various gender issues which was followed by a session by the faculty members of the Centre-Dr. Barnali Das and Debajanee Bora.

The UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University organised a week-long series of activities to mark the International Women’s Day 2024.

On the Day 1, 1st March 2024, three programmes were organised by the Centre.

1. It started with a Public Lecture by Urvashi Butalia, a noted feminist writer, co-founder of Kali for Women and Zubaan. She delivered a talk on 'The Researcher and the Researched: Questions for Our Times’ at 10 a.m. at the Conference Hall, UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University. The programme was attended by faculty and students of Dibrugarh University and colleges affiliated to Dibrugarh University, and members from civil society organisations.

2. An interactive session was organised on 1st March 2024 with Deepjyoti Bhatta, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Margherita College at 1 p.m. at the Conference Hall, Dibrugarh University.

3. A talk was delivered by Dr. Nasmeem F. Akhtar, Director i/c, UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University on ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ which was broadcasted by Akashvani Dibrugarh on 1st March 2024.

In collaboration with the UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University, the Zubaan Publishers, New Delhi organized a Research and Writing Methodology workshop from 27-29 February 2024 for the grantees of the Zubaan-Sasakawa Peace Foundation Grants for Young Researchers from the Northeast, 2023-24. The Workshop brought together 19 researchers, and eminent resource persons from across different regions of Northeast India and New Delhi. The three-day Workshop had insightful presentation by the resource persons and grantees followed by interactions. The workshop reflected on the aspect of taking back the research to the people who have been the ‘knowers’ of research and also the different methodological questions that are integral in conducting feminist research.

UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University is organizing a Coordinator’s Meet amongst the coordinators of Women’s Cell of various colleges affiliated to Dibrugarh University on 31 August 2023 as part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Centre.

Prof. Susheela Kaushik, the Founder Director of Women's Studies & Development Centre (WSDC), Delhi University and a noted Political Scientist and Retired Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi, will deliver the key-note address in the coordinator’s meet.
