In 1971, with resolution pronouncing that students are no more people of tomorrow, they are the people of the today, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) thundered with slogans like “Student Power, Nation Power” and “Students are
not future citizens; they are the citizens of today” which declared in clear terms how youth in India should be looked upon.Before that ABVP’s demand for students’ participation in university administration through democratic, fair and open elections across colleges and universities of all fields in the country was accepted by Gajendra Gadkar Committee for Governance of Universities in 1969 and Student Union elections were initiated and ABVP has ever since led this democratic movement and is undoubtedly the most glorious, premier student movements in India and the world.Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) registered on 9th July 1949 has fought for student rights and established autonomy of academic institutions through open, democratic, free & fairs elections over six decades, and given leadership to every strata of our society.
