About IGNOU:
The Indira Gandhi National Open University, known as IGNOU, is a distance learning national university located in IGNOU road, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, India. The university was established in 1985, when the Parliament of India passed the Indira Gandhi National Open University Act, 1985 (IGNOU Act 1985). IGNOU is run by the central government of India. IGNOU, the largest university in
the world with 4,000,000 students, was founded to impart education by means of distance and open education, provide higher education opportunities particularly to the disadvantaged segments of society, encourage, coordinate and set standards for distance and open education in India and strengthen the human resources of India through education. About School of Computer and Information Sciences (SOCIS):
The School of Computer & Information Sciences (SOCIS) was established in 1991 to provide computer education at the doorsteps of learners with the following objectives:
> To demonstrate that an open learning approach to computer education is not only feasible but probably preferable.
> To increase both accessibility and acceptability of IGNOU Computer Education Programmes in a coordinated way, ensuring high quality education at a number of levels.
> To disseminate learning and knowledge through an innovative multiple media teaching/ learning system. IGNOU's Computer Education Programmes follow a multiple-entry and multiple-exit model for moving through a set of modular courses for a student to achieve her/ his goal. MCA Programme Overview:
The broad objective of the MCA programme is to prepare graduate students for productive careers in software industry and academia by providing an outstanding environment for teaching and research in the core and emerging areas of the discipline. The Programme’s thrust is on giving the students a thorough and sound background in theoretical and application-oriented courses relevant to the latest computer software development. The programme emphasizes the application of software technology to solve mathematical, computing, communications/networking and commercial problems. This Master’s Degree Programme has been designed with a semester approach in mind. The first year courses are aimed at skills development in computers using various technologies, the second year is more focused on core courses providing conceptual frame work and the third year provides the specialization and the project work.
