From Quantum Foundations to Real-World Applications: A Week of Learning, Experimentation and Discovery

School of Engineering, Manav Rachna University concluded an ATAL Academy Faculty Development Programme on “Quantum Computing & Communication for Next Generation Intelligent Systems”, bringing together expert perspectives, hands-on learning and research exposure around one of the most transformative areas of emerging technology.

Across the week, participants moved from the mathematical foundations of quantum computing, quantum gates and circuit design to advanced concepts including Quantum Key Distribution and the BB84 Protocol, Quantum Fourier Transform, Shor’s and Grover’s algorithms, quantum teleportation, post-quantum cryptography and quantum machine learning.

The FDP brought together domain expertise from C-DAC, DTU, BARC and QNu Labs creating a rich learning environment for exploring the rapidly evolving quantum ecosystem.

A key highlight was the industrial visit to CSIR–National Physical Laboratory (NPL), which added an important experiential dimension to the FDP. For participants, the week offered a rich blend of expert learning, hands-on experimentation and research exposure, deepening their understanding of next-generation intelligent systems.

At Manav Rachna University, we continue to empower faculty with future-ready knowledge, research opportunities and meaningful academic engagement.

From understanding the quantum advantage to writing our first quantum programmes—Day 1 set the foundation for what lies ahead.

The inaugural day of the AICTE ATAL Academy Faculty Development Programme on “Quantum Computing and Communication for Next Generation Intelligent Systems” at Manav Rachna University began with an engaging exploration of why quantum computing matters, its advantages and limitations, and the paradigm shift it brings to the future of intelligent systems.

The sessions then moved from classical vs. quantum computing to the fundamental principles of qubits, superposition, entanglement, measurement, and state collapse, followed by hands-on exposure to quantum programming through Qniverse and Qiskit.

The day brought together expert perspectives and experiential learning, with sessions led by: Dr. Pawan Singh Mehra, DTU and Dr Naresh Raghava.

From concepts to code, Day 1 was a strong beginning to a week of exploring the technologies that could redefine the next generation of intelligent systems.
