Revisiting Prof. Puran Singh: Mysticism, Modernity, and Literary Humanism
*About the Volume*
This proposed edited volume seeks to critically reassess the literary, philosophical, and cultural contributions of Prof. Puran Singh, a pioneering figure in Indian Writing in English, Sikh thought, and modern spiritual humanism. Despite his remarkable versatility as a poet, essayist, scientist, and thinker, Prof. Puran Singh remains relatively underexplored within mainstream literary criticism.
His writings—deeply influenced by Sikh philosophy, mysticism, nature, and humanistic values—offer a unique synthesis of spirituality and modernity. His English works, including The Spirit of the Sikhs, The Book of Ten Masters, and The Story of Swami Ram, articulate a vision of life rooted in love, ethical living, and universal brotherhood.
This volume aims to bring together original scholarly essays that explore his literary corpus, philosophical engagements, and enduring relevance in contemporary critical discourse. It seeks to situate Prof. Puran Singh within broader frameworks such as Indian Writing in English, ecocriticism, mysticism, postcolonial studies, and comparative literature.
