In legal education, mastering statutory provisions is only half the journey. The
greater challenge for any aspiring advocate begins when transitioning from the
classroom to the community-navigating the friction between the law in books and
the law in action.
The Pro Bono Club & Legal Assistance Cell at the School of Law, Forensic Justice
and Policy Studies, National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), successfully
organized the inaugural edition of Shastrarth - a dedicated socio-legal discourse
platform.
Deliberating on the theme “Decoding Taboo: Why do they exist & how to deal with
them on the ground level?”, the discussion focused on the cultural barriers
encountered during legal awareness and outreach initiatives:
▪️ Deconstructing Field Resistance: Analyzing why sensitive issues such as
domestic disputes and reproductive rights frequently trigger community
hesitation and defensiveness.
▪️ Beyond Legal Jargon: Identifying how formal statutory phrasing can
unintentionally create communication gaps between legal aid teams and grassroots
communities.
▪️ Actionable Socio-Legal Strategies: Brainstorming practical, empathetic
methods to deliver legal awareness without alienating the audience.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our moderator, Mr. Sukrit Garg Sir, for
adeptly guiding the discussion from anecdotal field experiences into structured
socio-legal takeaways, as well as to our discussants and seniors for their
active engagement and presence.
Looking Ahead:
Shastrarth is conceptualized as an inclusive platform open to all law students
to build confidence, deliberate on pressing socio-legal themes, and sharpen
public communication skills.
