GMU Strengthens Industry–Academia Collaboration with Indian Register of Shipping – IRCLASS Academy

🚢 Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) – IRCLASS Academy, marking another significant milestone in strengthening industry–academia collaboration in the maritime sector. The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. S. Shanthakumar, Provost, Gujarat Maritime University; Mr. Praveen K. Mishra, Managing Director, Indian Register of Shipping; and Mr. Amit Bhatnagar, Head, IRCLASS Academy, Indian Register of Shipping.

The MoU aims to foster academic, scholarly and professional collaboration through joint programmes, initiatives, knowledge exchange and mutually beneficial activities. By bringing together GMU’s academic expertise in maritime education, law, policy and management with the extensive industry knowledge and professional expertise of IRS–IRCLASS Academy, the partnership will create valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing, capacity building, research, professional development and greater interaction between academia and maritime professionals, contributing to the development of skilled and industry-ready maritime professionals.

✨ GENESIS 2026 – A Celebration of New Beginnings at Gujarat Maritime University ✨

Gujarat Maritime University hosted GENESIS 2026 – Freshers’ Party, a vibrant celebration welcoming the newest members of the GMU community. Held on 14 August 2026 at Aura Auditorium, the event brought together enthusiasm, creativity, confidence and the spirit of a new beginning. The programme commenced with the Welcome Address by Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Kaushik, Dean Academic Affairs, who warmly welcomed the freshers and set the tone for an engaging and memorable evening.

🚫 SAY NO TO RAGGING | ANTI-RAGGING AWARENESS SESSION 🚫

Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) organized an Anti-Ragging Awareness Session on 12 August 2026 for students to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment.

The session was conducted by Dr. Siddharth Warbhuvan, Assistant Professor of Law, who sensitised students about various forms of ragging, including mental, physical and sexual abuse; verbal abuse; indecent behaviour; criminal intimidation; wrongful restraint; financial exploitation; use of force; and acts that undermine human dignity.

Students were also made aware of the serious disciplinary consequences of indulging in or abetting ragging, including admission cancellation, suspension, withdrawal/withholding of scholarships, debarment from examinations, and restrictions on representing the institution.

The session highlighted the role of the Anti-Ragging Committee, GMU, and encouraged students to promptly report any incident or concern related to ragging. The importance of standing together against ragging and supporting fellow students was emphasized throughout the interaction.

At GMU, zero tolerance towards ragging is not just a policy; it is a collective commitment to ensuring dignity, safety, and respect for every student.

Gujarat Maritime University celebrated the 80th Independence Day with pride and patriotic spirit, bringing together faculty, staff, and students to commemorate this significant occasion. The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem, as the GMU community came together to honour the spirit of freedom and the values that define our nation. 🇮🇳✨

🎙️ Prof. (Dr.) S. Shanthakumar, Provost, Gujarat Maritime University, addressed the gathering and reflected on the significance of Independence Day and the vital role of education in shaping the nation’s future.
