5/5/2026: The Department of Commerce organized an outreach visit to Nikung Lee Orphanage at Chongey, Gangtok with the objective of engaging with the children and contributing to their well-being through educational and recreational activities. The VI semester students’ along with the all the faculties of commerce department participated in the outreach programme. The visit provided students with an opportunity to serve the community while fostering social responsibility and compassion.
During the program, the Commerce students conducted an interactive awareness session on health and hygiene, emphasizing the importance of maintaining personal cleanliness, proper handwashing practices, and healthy daily habits. The students also educated the children about waterborne diseases, discussing their causes, symptoms, preventive measures, and the significance of consuming safe and clean drinking water. The sessions were designed to be engaging and informative, encouraging active participation from the children. The students also prepared momo for the hostel children during lunch hours.

5/06/2026: Sikkim Government College, Burtuk, successfully celebrated *World Environment Day on June 5, 2026.* The event was jointly organized by the *National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell and the Eco Club of SGC Burtuk,* aligning direct local campus action with global climate efforts.

1. *Plantation*
Planted native tree saplings on campus grounds to increase green cover and soil stability.
2. *Planting of Variety Flowers*
Introduced a diverse range of flowering species to enhance the aesthetic beauty and biodiversity of the campus.
3. *Flowering Repotting*
Re-potted potted flowering plants with fresh, nutrient-rich soil to ensure their sustained, healthy growth.
4. *Cleanliness Drive*
Conducted a comprehensive clean-up of the college campus and surrounding slopes to maintain a clean, litter-free environment.

29/05/2026: A feild visit was done by the students of Sociology of IV sem to NIT. The students were briefed about the importance and contribution of Alexandra David in Sikkim. They were also shown different images of Sikkim and were made to understand the difference of Sikkim then and now.

25/05/2026: On the auspicious occasion of the ceremonial enshrinement of the sacred Kudung Rinpoche of His Holiness Kyabgeon Dodrubchen Rinpoche, the students of Sikkim Government College Burtuk participated in the religious ceremony by offering khada to His Holiness Kyabgeon Dodrubchen Rinpoche. Kyabje Dodrubchen Rinpoche was one of the most highly respected spiritual leaders of the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He was known for his wisdom, compassion, humility and dedication to preserving Buddhist teachings and culture. Dean of Students Welfare, Dr. Sharmila Karki Madam and students of Sikkim Government College, Burtuk gathered together below Sikkim Government College, Burtuk to pay homage and seek blessings.
