Today’s counselling session at Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Gangtok, was more than just an interaction with students—it was an opportunity to step into a remarkable chapter of Sikkim’s educational history.
🏫 Tashi Namgyal’s legacy dates back to the 1920s, making its institutional history one of the most significant in the development of modern education in Sikkim.
The institution is closely associated with the vision of Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal, whose commitment to education helped lay the foundation for a stronger educational system in the state.
Over the decades, the institution evolved from its early beginnings into a centre of learning that contributed significantly to the educational journey of generations of Sikkimese students.
One of the remarkable moments in its history was the visit of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1958. The institution continued to develop through the 1950s and 1960s, eventually reaching the Higher Secondary level and shaping itself into the renowned Tashi Namgyal Academy.
Standing among students today, it was inspiring to reflect on how institutions become more than buildings—they become repositories of memories, aspirations, achievements and generations of young minds.
