Report on Adventure Course

CDT Abhishek Chettri of 03 Sikkim NCC Battalion, Tadong, Gangtok–737102, attended the Adventure Course conducted by the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Dirang, from 04 October 2025 to 10 October 2025.

During this course, I successfully participated in various adventure activities such as trekking and rafting. We reached the institute on 4th October, and our daily routine began with physical training in the morning.

Later in the day, we attended practical sessions by the riverside, which included swimming, rafting, rescue training, and other adventure-based exercises. The course was primarily focused on water-based adventure activities, where we learned about raft making and its ex*****on on water.

It was highly thrilling and tested our endurance, willpower, and physical strength. Each session helped us build confidence, discipline, and teamwork. Overall, it was a truly adventurous and enriching experience. I would strongly recommend that every cadet take part in such courses to gain both skill and self-confidence while enjoying the spirit of adventure.

REPORT: Journey as an NCC cadet during the Thal Sainik Camp (TSC) Firing Training.

My journey started with the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), where I was first shortlisted for higher-level training. From there, I progressed to the Pre-TSC Camp, which gave me advanced training in firing, weapon handling, obstacle courses, map reading, tent pitching, and drill. These camps prepared me physically and mentally for the next stage of selection.

Based on my performance, I was selected to attend the One-Month TSC Firing Camp at Kamrang, Namchi (Sikkim) and later at Kolkata (Kalyani ). Representing the Darjeeling & Sikkim Group in this camp was one of the proudest moments of my NCC career. During this journey, I was also entrusted with the responsibility of the rank of Junior Under Officer (JUO), which motivated me to lead with confidence and responsibility.

After this, I went on to represent my group at the Inter Group Competition (IGC). The competition was intense, with cadets from different groups showcasing their best skills in firing, physical training, and leadership. Although I could not clear the final IGC selection to reach the Delhi TSC camp, being just one step away from Delhi was both a challenge and a proud achievement for me.

The entire journey not only strengthened my firing and physical skills but also gave me an opportunity to interact with cadets from across the region. This built lasting friendships and gave me a deep sense of unity, discipline, and teamwork.

I sincerely thank:

The Commanding Officer (CO), Mr. Aditya Verma, for his inspiring leadership and encouragement.

The Caretaker Officer (CTO), Mr. Dawa Tshering Bhutia, for his guidance and continuous support.

The Permanent Instructional (PI) Staff for their tireless training, strict discipline, and valuable mentorship.

Their efforts shaped me as a cadet and made my journey possible.

From CATC to Pre-TSC, to the One-Month TSC camp at Kamrang Namchi and Kolkata, and finally to the IGC stage, I consider this journey one of the greatest achievements of my NCC life. Representing the Darjeeling & Sikkim Group and being promoted to JUO will always remain a proud milestone. Even though I did not make it to Delhi TSC, the discipline, confidence, and leadership I gained will guide me throughout my future.

Jai Hind!
