The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts (FHSSLA), Sikkim Manipal University, successfully organised the Inter-College Quiz Competition titled “Rising Business Leaders’ Quiz 2026 – Compete with Confidence.” The event was organised to promote knowledge enhancement, analytical thinking, healthy competition, and academic interaction among students from different institutions.
Inaugural Session
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by the Coordinator, Dr Madan Chhetri, who welcomed all the dignitaries, participants, and guests and highlighted the significance of organising such academic events.
The occasion was further enriched by the Words of Wisdom delivered by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, who emphasised the importance of knowledge, leadership, and continuous learning among students. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and the Registrar also graced the programme and felicitated the visiting colleges for their participation and contribution towards making the event successful.
An overview of the Department of Commerce and its academic activities was presented by Dr. Aditya Rai, Head of the Department, who highlighted the department's initiatives and commitment towards academic excellence.

Quiz Competition
The competition was conducted by Dr. Bibeth Sharma, HoD of Management Studies, SMIT, who served as the Quiz Master and engaged the participants through a series of interesting and intellectually stimulating rounds covering business knowledge, current affairs, and analytical skills.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation and a healthy spirit of competition among the teams, making the event informative and exciting.

Following a highly competitive contest, the winners were declared as follows:

The Department of Commerce, FHSSLA, Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), successfully organized an industrial visit for B.Com 3rd Year students to Alkem Laboratories Limited, Samardung, South Sikkim on 19th May 2026.
A total of 29 participants, including 27 students and 2 faculty members, took part in the visit. The primary objective of the programme was to provide students with practical exposure to industrial operations and enable them to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world business practices.
During the visit, students were given valuable insights into the functioning of the pharmaceutical industry, organizational structure, manufacturing processes, quality control measures, workplace practices, and industrial management systems. The interactive session with company officials provided students with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and understand professional work environments.
The Department of Commerce expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Prabal, Mr. Prasant, Mr. Diwakar, and the HR Team of Alkem Laboratories Limited for their warm hospitality and valuable guidance during the visit. Their support and cooperation contributed significantly to making the educational programme informative and successful.
The visit proved to be a meaningful learning experience and further strengthened the students’ understanding of industry practices and professional requirements.

The Department of English, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts successfully organized an educational field trip to Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary at Soreng on the 3rd and 4th of April, 2026. A total of 15 students, accompanied by 5 faculty members, participated in the trip.
The purpose of the visit was to enhance experiential learning for students enrolled in courses such as “Literature and Environment” and “Nature Writing”. The excursion provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with a natural ecosystem, allowing them to move beyond classroom-based learning and develop a deeper understanding of environmental themes reflected in literature.
Surrounded by the rich biodiversity and scenic beauty of the park, students actively observed, and reflected on the relationship between nature and literature. The trip also served as a source of creative inspiration, motivating students to imagine and write based on their interaction with the natural landscape. The trip proved to be both academically enriching and personally rewarding.
