Intra-Moot Court Competition 2025 Concludes Successfully at Sikkim Government Law College, Gangtok

The Moot Court Committee and the Moot Court Society of Sikkim Government Law College (SGLC), Gangtok, successfully hosted a three-day Intra-Moot Court Competition 2025 from 21st to 23rd May 2025. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students who showcased their advocacy skills, legal drafting, and research skills among law students, fostering an environment of academic excellence and courtroom simulation.
This year’s Intra-Moot Court Competition was held as part of the celebrations marking 50 Years of Sikkim’s Statehood, under the overarching theme “Sunaulo, Samriddha, ani Samartha Sikkim”—symbolizing a Golden, Prosperous, and Capable Sikkim. The event aligned with the state’s vision of fostering youth participation, academic excellence, and civic awareness as integral pillars in building a vibrant and empowered society.
Day 1: Inauguration, Researcher’s Test, Draw of Lots & Exchange of Memorials
The event was inaugurated on 21st May 2025 with the commencement of the Researcher’s Test, a crucial component designed to assess research skills, critical analysis, and clarity in subject-matter of participating teams. The test was smoothly conducted under the supervision of:
• Dr. Sushma Sharma, Convenor, Moot Court Committee
• Dr. Shraddha Subedi, Member, Moot Court Committee
• Mr. Ajay Pradhan, Member, Moot Court Committee
Following the test, the Draw of Lots was conducted, wherein teams were randomly designated as either Petitioners or Respondents. The Exchange of Memorials between opposite teams.
Day 2: Quarter-Final and Semi-Final Rounds
On 22nd May 2025, the competition advanced to the Quarter-Final and Semi-Final rounds, held across multiple courtrooms. The Quarter-Finals featured eight teams competing simultaneously, judged on Confidence, Articulation, and Knowledge of Law. The esteemed panel of judges included:
• Courtroom 1: Ms. Jyoti S***a, Additional Public Prosecutor, District and Sessions Court, Gangtok, Sikkim
• Courtroom 2: Mr. Sajal Sharma, Advocate, High Court of Sikkim
• Courtroom 3: Mr. Pramit Chettri, Advocate, High Court of Sikkim
• Courtroom 4: Mr. Kazi Sangay Thendup, Advocate, High Court of Sikkim.
The top four teams advanced to the Semi-Finals,
Day 3: Final Round and Valedictory Ceremony
The Final Round, held on 23rd May 2025, marked the culmination of the competition. It was judged by Mr. Bhusan Sharma, Advocate, High Court of Sikkim and Mr. Pramit Chettri, Advocate, High Court of Sikkim.
The two top teams were:
• Team SK/SEM/0038: Aditii S***a, Rhezalme Lepcha, Samyoma Limboo
• Team SK/SEM/0050: Pratham Sharma, Arpita S***a, Mohan Kumar Bhattarai

• Best Researcher Award: Rhezalme Lepcha
• Best Memorial Award: Team SK/SEM/0044 – Preeti Kumari, Isneha Tamang, Merry Hangma
• Best Speaker Award: Aditii S***a
The event concluded with a valedictory session and Prize distributing ceremony. The event was graced by Learned Advocate , High Court of Sikkim Mr. M. N. Dhungel, Mr. Bhusan Sharma and Mr. Pramit Chettri who praised the participants ‘efforts and encourage them to pursue excellence in law.
The Moot Court Committee and the Moot Court Society, Sikkim Government Law College expresses deepest gratitude to Dr. Tshewang Dorjee Lama, Principal, Sikkim Government Law College and Dr. Dilip Pandey, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Sikkim Government Law College for their unwavering support in making the Intra-Moot Court Competition 2025 a resounding success. The event provided an invaluable platform for budding legal professionals to develop and showcase their advocacy skills.
The Committee extends its sincere thanks to Dr. Sonam Diki Dolma Bhutia, Senior Assistant Professor, and Dr. Deepankar Rai, Assistant Professor, for their valuable assistance in conducting the Researchers Test. A special mention is made of Dr. Jigmee Dorjee Bhutia, Assistant Professor, for meticulously tabulating the scores during the event.
The Intra-Moot Court Competition 2025 concluded successfully on a high note, leaving a lasting note on all the participants and students. The institutions plans to continue hosting such events to provide stud ents with opportunities to develop their legal skills and knowledge.
