ICFAI University Sikkim Students Participate in the 2nd Sikkim Studentsโ€™ Assembly 2026

Students of the Faculty of Law, The ICFAI University Sikkim, participated in the 2nd Edition of the Sikkim Studentsโ€™ Assembly 2026, organised in collaboration with the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and the Studentsโ€™ Welfare Board, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, from 7โ€“15 October 2026.

Representing the University, Ms. Tshamta Shivakoti (LL.B. V Semester) participated as the Minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Resilience, while Ms. Subesna Chettri (LL.B. III Semester) served as the Leader of the Opposition.

The programme provided the students with valuable practical exposure to legislative proceedings, parliamentary procedures, democratic governance, public policy and constructive debate, bridging the gap between theoretical legal education and real-world legislative practices.

The ICFAI University Sikkim congratulates its students on this enriching experience and encourages their continued engagement in democratic processes and public service.

The ICFAI University Sikkim Hosts IIT Jodhpur Delegation under Yuva Sangam Phase 7

The ICFAI University Sikkim warmly welcomed a delegation of 50 students and 5 faculty members from IIT Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on 13 October 2026, under Yuva Sangam Phase 7, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Dr. Jagannath Patnaik, Vice Chancellor, felicitated the delegation and addressed the gathering on Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, highlighting Indiaโ€™s rich cultural diversity and the importance of unity, mutual understanding, and national integration.

The programme featured cultural performances, student interactions, faculty exchange sessions, and a guided campus tour, fostering academic engagement and meaningful connections between Rajasthan and Sikkim.

Lecture on Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act: Law, Enforcement & Prevention

The Faculty of Law, ICFAI University Sikkim, organised a lecture on โ€œUnderstanding the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act: Law, Enforcement & Preventionโ€ on 6th October 2026 at the University Auditorium.

The session was delivered by Advocate Yadav Sharma, Government Advocate-cum-Public Prosecutor, who shared valuable insights into drug-related laws, investigation, enforcement, prosecution and prevention, along with practical experiences from the field.

The interactive session helped students connect their legal learning with the practical challenges of combating drug abuse and highlighted the importance of awareness, prevention, counselling, rehabilitation and collective social responsibility.

The programme provided law students with meaningful exposure to the practical dimensions of the criminal justice system and the fight against drug abuse in Sikkim.

One-Day Symposium on the Juvenile Justice Act

Students from the Faculty of Law, The ICFAI University, Sikkim participated in a one-day Symposium on the Juvenile Justice Act, organised at the Sikkim Judicial Academy on 2 October 2026.

The symposium brought together judicial officers, legal professionals and key stakeholders to deliberate on important aspects of juvenile justice, including child protection, procedural safeguards, rehabilitation, reintegration and the rights and dignity of children in conflict with the law.

The programme was graced by the Honโ€™ble Mr Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim and Patron-in-Chief, Sikkim SLSA, as the Chief Guest, and the Honโ€™ble Mr Justice Bhaskar Raj Pradhan, Judge, High Court of Sikkim and Executive Chairperson, Sikkim SLSA, as the Guest of Honour.

The insightful deliberations emphasised the importance of a child-friendly, compassionate and rehabilitative approach to juvenile justice, while highlighting the need for coordinated efforts among the judiciary, legal services institutions, child welfare authorities, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.

For our law students, the symposium offered a valuable opportunity to gain practical insights into the working of the juvenile justice system and interact with distinguished members of the judiciary and legal fraternity.

The ICFAI University, Sikkim remains committed to providing its students with meaningful opportunities for experiential learning, professional exposure and engagement with contemporary legal issues.

As part of the 2026 Environmental Awareness Initiatives, ICFAI University, Sikkim organized a special Awareness Lecture on Solid Waste Management on 18 September 2026, in collaboration with the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC).

We were privileged to have Ms. Meena Pradhan, Assistant Commissioner, GMC, as the Keynote Speaker, who shared valuable and practical insights on waste segregation, responsible disposal, recycling, and sustainable waste-management practices.
