Shramdaan: Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath!

The Department of Sociology, Sikkim University, successfully conducted a cleanliness drive today, 1st October 2026, under the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign, in response to Circular No. 33/2026 issued by the University.

The initiative aimed to promote cleanliness, collective responsibility and environmental awareness through voluntary community participation.

Faculty members, staffs and students actively participated in the Shramdaan, contributing their time and efforts towards creating a cleaner and healthier campus environment.

Her research, “Migrants as Social Actors: An Exploratory Study of the Life of Nepali Migrant Porters in Sikkim,” is under the supervision of Prof. Sandhya Thapa.

The Department of Sociology, Sikkim University, warmly welcomed its new batch of students with a vibrant and memorable Freshers’ Celebration held today, 22 August 2026, at Cauvery Hall, 5th Mile, Tadong.

The Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, has announced that the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is open for online applications for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships for eligible ST, SC and OBC students.

According to a notice issued by the department, students can apply through the National Scholarship Portal from June 1 to August 31, 2026.

Fresh applicants are required to download the NSP OTR App and the Aadhaar FaceRD App from the Google Play Store, register for One-Time Registration (OTR), generate their OTR ID and subsequently log in to the NSP portal using their OTR ID and password.

Applicants must complete the online application by providing their personal, academic and bank details and uploading the required documents, including income certificates, caste certificates and mark sheets. Students have been advised to carefully review their applications before submission and retain a printout or screenshot for future reference.

Eligible students can apply through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in

For assistance, students may contact the Social Welfare Department at 8509764794 for ST scholarships, 7001058928 for SC scholarships, and 7908421277 for OBC scholarships.

The department has urged all eligible students to apply within the stipulated deadline.

Some of our 3rd Semester M.A. Sociology students participated in the Master Class in Acting & Theatre, organized by Film Magnet in collaboration with the Sikkim Art, Culture & Heritage (SACH) Development Board, Government of Sikkim.

The inspiring session featured acclaimed actor Shri Dayahang Rai and renowned filmmaker Anil Budha Magar, who shared their experiences and insights into acting, theatre, cinema, and storytelling.

We are delighted that our students had the opportunity to engage in this enriching learning experience beyond the classroom. Such interactions help broaden perspectives and encourage creativity, confidence, and interdisciplinary learning.
