extension: Last SSC paper cancelled

Final exams of classes 9 and 11 have also been dropped even as students welcome move.
Lakhs of anxious students and parents heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday when the state government announced the cancellation of the last SSC paper of geography subject, carrying 40 marks, in light of the extension of the lockdown period.
The paper was originally scheduled for March 23 but the decision to postpone it was taken on March 21, on the day of the penultimate history paper, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. On March 30, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) deferred the decision to hold the last SSC paper until after April 15.
Announcing the decision to cancel the last exam, school education minister Varsha Gaikwad said in a video message on social media that the state board will take a decision on the marking scheme of the paper. The SSC board exams for students with disability, for work experience-related subjects, also stand cancelled.
“We took the decision after discussions with the board officials,” Gaikwad told Mirror.
The state board held a series of deliberations with education officials across all districts and submitted their recommendations to the government to cancel the exam.
