*Report on Workshop “The Sound Game: English Phonetics in Action”*
The Department of English, under the guidance and encouragement of the *Principal, Dr Amandeep Heera*, organised a one-day workshop titled *“The Sound Game: English Phonetics in Action”* for the students of *B.A. and B.C.A.*
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation of around *100 students*, who actively engaged in various practical activities related to English pronunciation and phonetics.
The workshop aimed to familiarise students with the fundamentals of *English speech sounds, phonetic symbols, transcription, vowels, consonants and diphthongs* through an interactive and activity-based approach. Instead of limiting phonetics to theoretical concepts, the session encouraged students to learn through speaking, identification, pronunciation and practical exercises.
The workshop provided students with an opportunity to overcome common pronunciation difficulties and develop greater awareness of the sound system of English.
*Dr Heera appreciated the efforts of the Department of English in organising an engaging academic activity and highlighted the importance of effective communication and correct pronunciation for students in their academic and professional lives.* She encouraged students to actively participate in such skill-oriented programmes for their overall development.
The workshop was conducted by faculty members of the Department of English, who introduced students to phonetics through simple examples, demonstrations and interactive exercises. Students participated enthusiastically in activities involving *IPA symbols, identification of sounds, transcription of words, vowel and diphthong recognition, and pronunciation practice*.
