Ad over 4.6 trillion kgs of cigarette butts are dumped annually all over the planet. Mostly made from plastic, this waste takes between 18 months to 100 years to degrade. Thankfully, Vedobroto Roy and Chetana Prasad, husband and wife duo, developed a roll-your-own cigarette filter that is designed to transform cigarette waste into something sustainable! π±β£

Ved and Chetna launched Karma Tips (.tips), cigarette filters made using a patented process where fruit and vegetable pulp is used to create the paper. This paper is 100% biodegradable because it requires absolutely no chemicals or artificial binders in the production process.β£

The filters are embedded with Amaranthus seeds. This plant not only attracts bees, it is also 100% edible (with the highest protein level in the plant kingdom) and its grains are an ancient superfood. Additionally, this plant has a secret that does a wonderful thing for our planet: it cleans the soil of toxins and heavy metals as it grows, leaving the soil toxin-free and clean, ready to be cultivated for future generations.β£

While users are concerned about the toxins a cigarette filter might hold and the fact that ni****ne is harmful for the embedded seeds, the couple ensures that the filters are made up of three layers. The middle, protected layer is made of thin banana paper and contains the seeds while the two outer layers protect the seeds from the ni****ne.β£

On top of that, these filters are placed inside handmade Karma Bags which are wood-free paper bags made of cotton leftovers, fruit and vegetable pulp.β£
