🎓 Successful PhD Thesis Defense of Komal Kumari

The Department of Biotechnology, School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences (SEBES), proudly witnessed the successful open defense of the PhD thesis of Ms. Komal Kumari in the presence of the External Examiner, Professor Suhail Parvez, Dean SCLS, Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi.

The open defense was attended by a large number of PhD scholars, the Head of the Department, faculty members, and research scholars, including her supervisor, Professor Rizwanul Haque, Dean, SEBES.

The successful defense marked an important milestone in Komal Kumari’s academic and research journey. The faculty members and research scholars congratulated her for her achievement and wished her continued success in her future academic and professional endeavors.

The occasion was made memorable with cake cutting and fun-filled activities organized by the research scholars of the Department of Biotechnology, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.

The School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences (SEBES), Central University of South Bihar in collaboration with Microbiologists Society, India organized the International Microorganism Day (IMD) - 2026 in University campus. International Microorganism Day is celebrated every year to recognize the vital role microbes play in our daily lives, health, food, and the environment. The programme began with Science Model exhibition and Competition by students in which the students showcased their creativity, imaginations and talent by making wonderful scientific models on microbes. In the competition three prizes were given to the student teams. There were also short oral presentations by research scholars and they were awarded for their outstanding research publications in prestigious international journals. The Dean of School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences (SEBES) Prof. Rizwanul Haque welcomed the guests and briefed about the achievements of the School, the importance of microbes in our life and he also emphasized the importance of collaborative research. The Keynote speaker was Dr. Md. Kausar Neyaz, Senior Research Scientist, Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Greater Noida and also the founder and Managing Director of Aabir Bio-Services Foundation. In his keynote address he explained about the pathogenesis of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Cervical Cancer. He told this virus affects both men and women. The Guest of Honour was Prof. Suhel Parvez, Dean Academics and also the Dean of School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. He introduced the audience to the fascinating world of microbes and shared a few interesting facts about microbes like we cannot have curd, jalebi or pizza if we did not have microbes. He told that less than 1% of microbes cause diseases and the rest are either harmless or beneficial for us and our environment. The Chief Guest in the programme was Prof. Dilip Kumar Kesri, Vice-Chancellor of Magadh University, Bodhgaya. His expertise is zoology and he shared his experiences, explained about the importance of microbes in nitrogen fixation in plants, and that we eat plants, thus we cannot survive if there is no microbe. He expressed his happiness and encouraged the students that they should feel fortunate that they are studying in CUSB, the best University in this region. In his presidential address Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh, the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Central University of South Bihar appreciated the organizing team for the celebration of International Microorganism Day with so many different types of events actively involving the students. He told that students are not just resources but they are nation builders, they all are unique and have great potentials. He told that humans are over-exploiting the natural resources, they are disturbing the environment including different layers of the earth. He wished to open a course in Microbiology in CUSB soon. The organizing secretaries of this programme were Dr. Jawaid Ahsan (Biotechnology), Dr. Amrita Srivastava (Life Science), Dr. Sunita Singh (Geography), Dr. Dhirendra Kumar (Geology), Dr. Krishna Kumar Ojha (Bioinformatics) and Dr. Prashant (Environmental Science). The programme was anchored by Dr. Amrita Srivastava and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Sunita Singh. The programme was attended by more than 300 people including faculty members and students of various Departments of the University.

and Prof. Rajesh Ranjan, Head, Department of Environmental Science attended first Comprehensive Meeting on Promotion and Development of Biotechnology and Bio-based Technologies in Bihar

A comprehensive meeting was organized by the Department of Science, Technology & Technical Education (DSTTE), Government of Bihar, to deliberate on the promotion and development of emerging sectors of Science and Technology, with particular emphasis on Biotechnology, establishment of a Biotechnology Park, and development of bio-based technologies in Bihar.

The meeting focused on identifying the opportunities, strengths, challenges, and future strategies for strengthening Bihar’s biotechnology ecosystem and creating an enabling environment for research, innovation, entrepreneurship, industry–academia collaboration, technology development, and commercialization of bio-based products and technologies.

🎓 Successful Ph.D. Thesis Defense & Viva Voce Examination

We are pleased to share that Ms. Sushama Kumari Singh successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis and appeared for the viva voce examination on the research topic:

“Paraquat-Induced Neurological Changes in Drosophila melanogaster and Their Reversal”

She conducted this research work under the able supervision of Dr. Jawed Ahsan, Department of Biotechnology.

The viva voce examination was conducted in the presence of the External Examiner, Dr. Amir Nazir, Scientist-G & Head, Division of Toxicology, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), along with the HoD, Biotechnology; Dean, SEBES; faculty members; research scholars; and a large number of students.

The successful completion of the thesis defense marks an important milestone in Ms. Sushama Kumari Singh’s academic and research journey.

Congratulations to Mr. Shubham Gudadhe on Earning His Doctoral Degree

Heartiest congratulations to Mr. Shubham Gudadhe on the successful defense of his Ph.D. thesis and the award of the doctoral degree.

Mr. Gudadhe successfully defended his thesis in the presence of students, research scholars, faculty members, and the External Examiner, Professor Sharad Mishra. He carried out his doctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Jawed Ahsan in the field of Neuroscience.

Vice Chancellor Visits School SEBES and Holds Review Meeting with Dean and Heads of Departments

The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. K. N. Singh, held a comprehensive review meeting with the Dean, Prof. Rizwanul Haque, and the Heads of various Departments of the School.

During the meeting, the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor appreciated the sincere efforts and achievements of the School and provided valuable guidance to the Dean and Heads of Departments for the overall development and academic excellence of all departments. He also resolved several issues related to departmental functioning and encouraged the faculty members to work with greater dedication and commitment for the betterment of the University.

Following the meeting, the Vice Chancellor visited various departmental laboratories, where he interacted with Ph.D. scholars, reviewed the ongoing research activities, and motivated the researchers to pursue high-quality and impactful research. His visit and interactions inspired the faculty members, researchers, and students to contribute more effectively towards the University's growth and academic excellence.
