The School of Pharmacy, GIET University, Gunupur, celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2026 with great enthusiasm, bringing together students, faculty members and pharmacy professionals under the FIP theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures.”
With a special focus on “Swastha Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR),” the programme highlighted the vital role of pharmacists in promoting the rational use of medicines, preventing infections, ensuring patient safety and building a healthier society.
The celebration was graced by Dr. Laxmi Kanta Sahoo, Senior Surgeon, SDH Gunupur, as Chief Guest, along with pharmacists from SDH Gunupur as special guests. Dr. Balakrushna Tripathy, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Computational Sciences); Dr. A.V.N.L. Sharma, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Material Sciences); and Dr. Kakita Murali Gopal, Principal, School of Engineering and Technology, encouraged the participants with their esteemed presence.
Students showcased their knowledge, creativity and communication skills through quiz, elocution, poster presentation and reel-making competitions, followed by a prize distribution ceremony honouring the winners.
Extending learning beyond the campus, an AMR awareness programme was conducted in the adopted village of Narsinghamunda, sensitising the community to antimicrobial resistance, responsible use of antimicrobials, infection prevention, patient safety and antimicrobial stewardship.
Dr. Satya Prakash Panda, President; Dr. Chandradhwaj Panda, Vice President; and Dr. N. V. Jagannadha Rao, Registrar, GIET University, conveyed their best wishes and appreciated the initiative for strengthening the role of pharmacists in public health.
