🧠 “Do You See Me?” – Learning Disability Month 2026

On 16 October 2026, the Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education, in collaboration with the Centre for Disability Studies, SGT University, organised an Awareness-cum-Discussion Session on “Understanding Specific Learning Disabilities: Accurate Identification and Responsive Educational Support.”

The session brought together 127 students from Special Education, Education, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and other faculties. It was a good example of the multidisciplinary approach that learner-centred support needs.

Our resource person, Dr Geet Oberoi, Founder President, Orkids Foundation, New Delhi, shared her professional expertise. The discussion covered:

✅ Dyslexia as a Specific Learning Disability, not a sign of low intelligence or lack of effort
✅ Myths versus facts, including the idea that children “grow out of it”
✅ Early indicators, classroom observation, screening and referral pathways
✅ Multisensory teaching, assistive technology, reasonable accommodations and alternative assessment
✅ A strengths-based view of learners, in line with the RPwD Act, 2016 and NEP 2020

The session also included a screening of What is Dyslexia? by Made By Dyslexia, in English and Hindi-dubbed versions. Our student-teachers can now carry this message to schools, families and communities.

SGT Ka Sparsh

SGT University, organized a Disability Awareness Program through an educational skit at Government Senior Secondary School, Makrola Village, Gurugram, on 8 October 2026.

The skit aimed to create awareness about disability, inclusion, empathy, equal opportunities, and the importance of building an inclusive society. Through an engaging and meaningful performance, students conveyed the message that every individual deserves respect, dignity, acceptance, and equal participation. 🤝

The initiative reflects SGT Ka Sparsh’s commitment to community engagement, social responsibility, and inclusive education, while empowering students to become ambassadors of positive social change.

Community-Based Experiential Learning Activity

The Department of Special Education, Faculty of Education, SGT University, Gurugram, organized a community-based experiential learning activity at Makrola Village on 8 October 2026.

Students presented an engaging awareness skit, applying classroom learning in a real-life community setting. The activity strengthened students’ communication, teamwork, creativity and social responsibility while promoting meaningful community engagement.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Field Visits in Special Education
Field visits to special schools and rehabilitation institutes form an integral component of experiential learning in the Department of Special Education. Conducted periodically throughout the academic year, these visits provide students with meaningful opportunities to connect classroom learning with authentic professional practice.
Through direct observation and interaction with educators, rehabilitation professionals, learners, and support teams, students gain practical insights into assessment, individualized educational planning, instructional strategies, assistive technologies, therapeutic interventions, classroom management, and multidisciplinary practices. Such exposure enables students to understand the diverse needs of persons with disabilities while developing professional competencies, reflective thinking, empathy, and confidence.
These visits also strengthen the collaborative relationship between the University and partner institutions, creating valuable platforms for knowledge exchange, professional interaction, and shared learning. By engaging with real-world practices, students are encouraged to critically reflect on theoretical concepts and understand their application across varied educational and rehabilitation contexts.
The Department remains committed to providing learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and contribute to the preparation of competent, ethical, inclusive, and practice-oriented special education professionals. These field experiences therefore represent not merely academic requirements, but important steps towards becoming effective practitioners in the field of disability and rehabilitation.

Workshop on Sports and First Aid – Experiential Learning

The Department of Education, Faculty of Education, SGT University, successfully organised an engaging “Workshop on Sports and First Aid – Experiential Learning” on 24 September 2026.

The workshop provided students with an opportunity to connect theoretical understanding with practical, hands-on learning, focusing on sports-related safety, injury prevention, and essential first-aid practices. The experiential approach encouraged active participation and helped learners understand how timely and appropriate first-aid responses can contribute to safer sporting environments.

The session was facilitated by Dr Dheeraj Kumar, Department of Sports Physiotherapy, SPHY, whose practical insights and demonstrations enriched the learning experience.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Neha Sharma, Patron, and Dr. Manita Devi, Coordinator, with the enthusiastic support of student coordinators Ms. Garima, Ms. Kamini, Ms. Arti Fojdar, and Ms. Ragini.

The workshop successfully promoted learning by doing, health awareness, sports safety, teamwork, and preparedness for real-life situations—reflecting the Faculty of Education’s commitment to experiential and practice-oriented learning.

🤝 SGT University and Muskaan PAEPID Sign MoU to Strengthen Collaboration for Inclusion and Empowerment
We are pleased to share the successful signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SGT University, Gurugram, Haryana, and Muskaan PAEPID, New Delhi.
The MoU marks an important step towards strengthening collaboration in the areas of inclusive education, disability support, experiential learning, professional development, knowledge sharing, and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Devendra Kumar, Registrar, SGT University, Gurugram, Haryana and Mrs. Neera Chawla, Chief Executive Officer, Muskaan PAEPID, New Delhi
