Department of Optometry and Vision Science (DOVS) was established in 2011, with the intention to generate Optometrist, who can detect, diagnose and manage ocular disorders and contribute in eradication of preventable blindness from India and world. Fewer availability of the accredited institutions offering Optometry courses in Delhi NCR, alongside the alarming increase in the incidence of various
ocular disorders and the disproportion in the requirement of Optometrists in the country lead to the establishment of the department at Amity University Haryana (AUH). Throughout the years this department had obtained to commence the bachelor’s program, Master’s and PhD programmes vide fulfillment of clinical infrastructure, equipment, and other resources as per international standards. Inculcating sound theoretical knowledge, promoting clinical competency and practicing with ethical standards are the key themes of our teaching pedagogy. Curriculum of Bachelor of Optometry is Designed along with consultation with Brien Holden Vision Institutes and India Vision Institute, so students get training at par with best universities of the world. Summer Internship, Behavioral Science, Communication Skills, and Foreign Language are the novel addition to the program structure. Since last eleven years department has significantly improved its effort in ensuring quality internship opportunities along with brighter job prospectus. Department of Optometry & Vision Science maintains a proud record of cent percent placement in clinical set-ups, private enterprise, and advancement in higher education. Besides clinical training emphasis on clinical research is one of the key aspects of our curriculum in both Undergraduate and Post-graduate programmes. To promote clinical outreach at the wider scale and fostering publications and projects, regularly eye screening camps in nearby Villages and schools are being organized on regular basis to help community. No wonder it is equally important to connect to the world while studying to accomplish the knowledge in global level; hence many National and International conference, seminars and workshops are being conducted to reach the above stated goal.
