Need of the hour is to include the speech and hearing impaired persons in the mainstream of society. Educational empowerment of these persons is utmost necessary. Maharshi Dayanand University has taken a historic step by introducing Diploma programmes in teaching of Indian Sign Language and Sign Language Interpretation. This was stated by Chairperson of Haryana State Welfare Society for Persons with Speech and Hearing Impairment (HWSPSHI) Dr. Sharanjeet Kaur in the inaugural session of ‘Awareness Campaign on Sign Language’ workshop which commenced today in MDU.
Dr. Sharanjeet Kaur in her address said that NEP’2020 calls for inclusive education. She said that PM Narendra Modi’s initiative of making provisions for Indian Sign Language (ISL) in NEP is positive step in the right direction.
Dean, Students’ Welfare Prof. Raj Kumar, Director Centre of Disability Studies Prof. Radhey Shyam, Director, CRISEC Prof. Inderjeet also spoke on the occasion, and highlighted the importance of Sign Language education. NSS Programme Officer Dr. Sonu Dehmiwal conducted the programme. NSS Programme Officer Dr. Shri Bhagwan extended the Vote of Thanks.
This Seven Day Workshop focusing an promotion of Indian Sign Language will conclude on Sept. 25. NSS volunteers from University Teaching Depts and affiliated colleges are primarily taking part in this workshop.
