*Brief Report on the Invited International Talk*
The Internationalisation Wing, Arya Vidyapeeth College (Autonomous), Guwahati, in collaboration with the Department of Geology and with the Earth Science Academic Branch of the Internationalisation Wing, organised an Invited International Talk on 30 September 2026 at Conference Hall–2 of the College.
The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Chhandashree Bhuyan, Associate Professor and Coordinator & In-charge of the Internationalisation Wing. She welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person, *Dr. Ryosuke Saito, Lecturer in Earth Sciences, Yamaguchi University, Japan.*
Dr. Saito delivered an engaging lecture titled *“Mass Extinctions in Earth’s History: What Rocks Reveal About the End-Permian and K–Pg Crises.”* Drawing upon his research in organic geochemistry and sedimentary records, he discussed how geological and geochemical evidence preserved in rocks can help reconstruct major environmental changes associated with mass-extinction events in Earth’s history. The lecture provided students with valuable exposure to contemporary research approaches in Earth Sciences and palaeo-environmental studies.
An additional highlight of the programme was the introduction of one of Dr. Saito’s research fellows, who gave a brief presentation on a new research project related to mass extinction, offering the participants a glimpse into ongoing research in this field.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 63 students from the Department of Geology, Arya Vidyapeeth College, and Cotton University, along with research scholars from Cotton University. Six faculty experts both in-house and from Cotton University also attended the session. The lecture concluded with a short but interactive question-and-answer session, during which faculty members,students and researchers had the opportunity to interact directly with the resource person.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Dicton Saikia, Academic Coordinator of the Earth Science Branch of the Internationalisation Wing, in collaboration with the Department of Geology, Arya Vidyapeeth College. Dr. Swapnali Dutta, Head of the Department of Geology, took an active role in the organisation and successful conduct of the programme.
The international talk provided an enriching academic platform for students, research scholars and faculty members and further strengthened the College’s continuing efforts to promote international academic interaction, research exposure and interdisciplinary learning through its Internationalisation Wing.
