RSCOM Students Experience the World of Theatre with Biwi, O Biwi!

Students and faculty of the Royal School of Communications and Media (RSCOM) had the opportunity to witness 'Biwi, O Biwi!', a one-act comedy play, at Rang Bhawan, Maligaon, on 25 September 2026. Presented by Trikaal Kala Sangam, the Hinglish comedy-drama was directed by Abinash Sarma, a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar for Direction (Theatre) and the Natasurya Phani Sarma Award. The production marked his 92nd play as a director.

Biwi, O Biwi! is a light-hearted Hinglish one-act comedy play designed as a feel-good theatrical experience, using humour and entertaining situations to take audiences away from the routine of everyday life. The play brings together comedy, lively performances and engaging stagecraft, inviting the audience to simply relax, laugh and enjoy the experience. The production, written by Trikalagya Rabha, featured Uttam Bhattacharya, Trikalagya Rabha, Dhrubajit Chaliha, Dr. Florence Handique Rabha, Manash K. Das, Indrani Sinha Das, Nayanika Borgohain and Kuldeep Goswami in the cast.

For the RSCOM students, the performance was more than an evening of entertainment. It provided a valuable glimpse into the world of live storytelling, acting, stage design, lighting, music and direction. As students of communication and media, experiencing theatre firsthand helped them understand how stories are created and communicated without the tools of film and post-production.

The experience also highlighted the importance of teamwork and live audience engagement, giving students a practical perspective on performance and storytelling that complements their classroom learning. For aspiring media professionals, the exposure served as an opportunity to appreciate the relationship between theatre and other forms of visual storytelling.

The students of B. A. Journalism and Mass Communication 5th semester of the Royal School of Communication and Media (RSCOM), The Assam Royal Global University, organised an educational tour to Aizawl, Mizoram, from 2nd of September to 4th September, 2026, offering an opportunity to explore the city, its culture, natural beauty and academic environment. The students were accompanied by the faculty members Ms. Sharmistha Pradhan and Mr. Progyan Sarma throughout the visit.

‎As a part of the educational tour, the group visited the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Aizawl, where they received a warm welcome from the faculty and students. The group was given a tour of Apna Radio 90.0 MHz, the community radio station operated by IIMC Aizawl. The students were introduced to its studio facilities and gained an understanding of the practical aspects of recording and media production. They also visited the computer laboratories and library, which houses a wide collection of books related to Mass Communication. This was followed by a short interactive session between the students of both institutions. As a token of gratitude, RSCOM presented the hosts with a Gamusa, representing Assamese culture and tradition, along with a memento, followed by a photo session.

‎The trip also included visits to popular locations in and around Aizawl, including Reiek Tlang, Solomon's Temple, the Skywalk and Bara Bazaar, allowing the students to experience the city's scenic beauty and culture. The disciplined traffic culture, marked by minimal honking, along with the warmth and politeness of the people, further added to the experience. Overall, the trip provided valuable academic exposure and learning beyond the classroom while creating memorable experiences of Mizoram's culture, lifestyle and natural beauty.

The students of the Royal School of Communication and Media (RSCOM), The Assam Royal Global University, celebrated Teachers’ Day with warmth and gratitude, honouring the mentors who inspire and guide them every day. The celebration began with heartfelt appreciation for the teachers, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and inspiring words from Dean, RSCOM, Prof. (Dr.) P. J. Baruah, and Dr. Florence Handique Rabha, Head Electronics and Anchoring.

As a token of appreciation, the students presented their teachers with handmade flowers and beautiful plants. The programme featured a variety of performances, including a Japanese song, duet and group dances, a melodious group song, and an energetic rap performance.

The celebration continued with an interactive movie-guessing game, where teachers had five seconds to identify scenes, creating moments of laughter and fun. Two heartfelt videos dedicated to the teachers added an emotional touch, and the celebration concluded with gratitude, joy, and memories to cherish.

**Frames and Forms 2.0: A Platform for Visual Storytellers**

The second edition of Frames and Forms was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) P. J. Baruah, Dean, RSCOM, who addressed the gathering with words of encouragement for the students present.

The event was further enriched by an inspiring speech from Prof. Mayukh Hazarika, whose words encouraged students to explore their creativity and individual perspectives. The programme was hosted by Afrida Julfi, with photographs contributed by Ratul Sarkar, Ayush Sahani, Kabya Kuntal Saikia, Vishist Basnet, Jugarka Kaushik, Mehak Kayum, Kallol Kashyap Kalita, and Ranuka Gurung.

Frames and Forms remains a meaningful initiative, giving students a platform to express their thoughts, emotions, and unique viewpoints through photography — celebrating visual storytelling as a powerful medium of creative expression.

The event was coordinated by Student Coordinator Mehak Kayum, along with team members Jugarka Kaushik, Evelin Hussain, Jugasmita Das, Barsha Kalita, and Ujjayan Dutta.
