From Classroom to Newsroom: DSVV Students Explore the World of Print Journalism
Students of BA-JMC 1st Year and JMC Minor 1st Year from Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya visited the Uttarakhand Head Office of Amar Ujala, Dehradun, for an academic and industry exposure visit aimed at understanding the practical dimensions of journalism, reporting, editing, newspaper designing, and publication processes.
The visit was organized under the guidance of the University Pro-Vice Chancellor and AWGP Youth Representative Respected Dr. Chinmay Pandya and the mentorship of Dr. Smita Vasistha, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
During the visit, Mr. Anup Vajpayee, Bureau Head, Amar Ujala, Dehradun, interacted with the students and provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of print journalism, reporting techniques, newsroom functioning, and current industry trends. Students also had the opportunity to engage with senior journalists of the organization and gain practical clarity on various aspects of media functioning.
A major highlight of the visit was the tour of the Amar Ujala printing press, where students witnessed the live newspaper printing process. Mr. Hemant Vaish, Head of the Printing Unit, guided the students through the technical operations of the press and addressed their queries in detail. As a memorable gesture, the Amar Ujala team also clicked a group photograph of the students and instantly printed it in newspaper format as a souvenir.
Along with the industry exposure, students also visited the renowned Tapkeshwar Mahadev Mandir, where they explored the spiritual and historical significance of the site while further enhancing their observational and reporting skills through experiential learning.
