The BFA (JSLH) program is proud to share that two of our students’ works are part of the Students’ Biennale at the Kochi Biennale 2025–26.

Our alumna Gunnica Arya and final-year student Khushi Mittal are presenting their works at Arthshila Kochi, as part of Root System Analysis, curated by Sukanya Deb.

“My work for the Students’ Biennale was not individual. It came together through collaboration, shared problem-solving, and collective support. The experience also allowed me to connect with student artists from across India—through workshops, working together, and helping one another.” — Gunnica Arya

Congratulations to Gunnica and Khushi on this important milestone.

Curated and co-curated by Achia Anzi and Oorja Garg, ‘On Absence’ experiments with the impossible task of displaying nothingness and the political possibilities opened up by the art of concealment.

To display absence is not only impossible but also counterintuitive, as art, at least in its current form, engages with showing, unfolding, and revealing. The works in this exhibition explore themes specific to the South Asian experience, including the politics of caste, the legacies of colonialism, the intergenerational impact of partition, gaps in the historical record, and pervasive histories of communal violence.

The exhibition assembles the works of artists –– including Payal Arya, Yogesh Barve, Sonam Chaturvedi, Priyanka D’Souza, Priyesh Gothwal, Priyank Gothwal, Shilpa Gupta, Rahul Juneja, Shaurya Kumar, Swati Kumari, Raqs Media Collective, and Mohit Shelare.

Our final year students had interned at the Electronic Life Research Studio over the summer break. During this collaborative programme led by Prof Sunil Manghani and Prof Ed D’Souza, they created experimental prototypes responding to the archives and context of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

We are delighted to share that their work is now published in the Journal of Visual Art Practice.

BFA (JSLH) Presents:

STARRY, SPARRING SIBLINGS
A lecture on the ‘sister arts’ of Literature and Painting
by Dr Justin Coombes

🗓️ 7 November 2025
🕝 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
📍 VBFA Studio

The British poet, artist, and critic Dr Justin Coombes will deliver a lecture on the enduring relationship between literature and visual art — a dialogue often described as the “sister arts.”

From Horace’s Ars Poetica to modern poetic and visual practices, Justin will trace how words and images have inspired, challenged, and expanded each other across cultures and centuries.

The session will be followed by a hands-on workshop engaging with ideas of storytelling through text and image. So, come and join us for this interactive lecture!

About the Speaker:
Dr Justin Coombes is a poet, artist, and Senior Tutor at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. His work spans poetry, photography, film, and collage, and has been exhibited internationally at institutions including Kyoto Art Centre, Turner Contemporary, and Sotheby’s London.

The Artistic Self-Representation of a Nation
Visual Symbolism & the Making of the Indian Constitution

We were delighted to witness powerful reflections on how the arts shaped the imagination of the Indian Constitution — and how they continue to speak to our politics today.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Debasish, Mr. Ananda Moy, and Ms. Anjchita Nair (Curator, Constitution Museum) for their inspiring insights and stories.

We’re also so proud of our BFA students — Keyaa Hiremath (4th Year) and Ananya Radhakrishna (3rd Year) — who represented BFA (JSLH) as speakers, sharing about our mural at the Constitution Museum and Gen Z’s take on political aesthetics.

📢 Proud ALUMNI update!

We are happy to share that our graduate, Nora Varma is currently interning at Jio Creative Labs, New Delhi for three months, and gave a talk show in high school.

At first, it was intimidating and commercial art is a new world for her. But, two months in, she is thriving with new set of skills, confidence and new fresh perspectives of the world, both as an artist and graphic designer. Apart from her work, she dapples between music, digital art, and writing; she is exploring the expansive field of arts. While balancing her artistic drive, she never stops learning new things almost everyday.
