A Glimpse into the BFA Studios: What We Do and How We Do It?

Third-year BFA students showcased the video works they developed over the course of a three-week class led by Prof. Priyesh Gothwal.

Each student explored distinct concepts and experimented with different approaches, resulting in a diverse range of aesthetics, visual languages, and creative expressions.

The showcase also reflected a spirit of collaboration and mutual support, as students shared their work, exchanged ideas, offered feedback, and guided one another throughout the creative process.

We are pleased to share the details of the illustration workshop conducted on the occasion of 17th university day.

The BFA(JSLH) Students from Sept 28-29th, were tasked in illustrating stories and displayed their masterful skills in storytelling and illustration.

Students were asked to revisit their childhood by reading the stories from "Grandma’s Bag of Stories" by the renowned author Sudha Murty. Students worked in groups to bring out Sudha Murty’s tales of life through their very own illustrations.

The chief guest, Mr. Narayan Murthy and the esteemed Vice chancellor, C. Raj Kumar of the JGU facilitated an exhibition on campus wherein all the illustrations were displayed.

From brainstorming ideas to passing the sheets to others to complete the illustrations, students learnt about working on illustration in teams and also used their creativity to visualise a story from text, and along all the bickering, paint splatters and laughter the students have created exceptional pieces of the work to be displayed.

We are delighted to share that our BFA(JSLH) faculty member, Professor Payal Arya (Payal Arya), is currently an artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, one of the world’s largest artist residencies, bringing together around 300 international artists working across disciplines.

As part of her ongoing research, Professor Arya visited the Pasteur Cultures of Cyanobacteria at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, where she has been studying cyanobacteria and their relationship to some of the earliest forms of life on Earth. Her research considers life at its most elemental scale, engaging with questions of origins, classification, and evolving boundaries.

She has also been visiting the Institut Curie to explore cell migration and confocal microscopy. Her research looks at how cells move through the body and at microscopic processes of recognition and misrecognition within the immune system, particularly in relation to autoimmune conditions, where distinctions between the self and non-self can become unstable.

Drawing from these encounters, Professor Arya is creating a series of imaginary maps that bring microscopic processes into conversation with historical and philosophical ideas around the self and the non-self. Through these maps, she traces shifting boundaries between what belongs to the body and what is perceived as foreign, exploring ideas of recognition, classification, tolerance, and rejection.

INTERFACING AS PRACTICE: Modulating Spirals and Sonic Ferments

The BFA Programme, Jindal School of Liberal Arts & Humanities (JSLH) is pleased to invite you to a session with Rahul Juneja, exploring the detection of Hekh, its stakes, agents, modulators and ongoing modulations—situating framework building as an expansive form of artistic practice.

The session asks: How do we move in, with and through the worlds we inherit, inhabit and invent as cultural practitioners? What new vocabularies, protocols and infrastructures must be conjured to sustain these inquiries?

About Hekh
Hekh is a New Delhi-based cultural interface that brings together practitioners to experiment, exchange and share diverse artistic practices. It works through assemblages, publications, performances, screenings, walkthroughs and dialogues—creating frameworks to host, test and share varied inquiries and worlds.

Speaker: Rahul Juneja
Rahul is a New Delhi-based artist and convener whose practice explores how knowledge is generated and circulated through historical, colonial and mythical frameworks. He detected Hekh in 2023.

Gopa Trivedi is part of This Animate Earth, a curated exhibition by Annalisa Mansukhani, presented at the Main Building, Bikaner House as part of Delhi Contemporary Art Week 2026.

The exhibition looks towards the botanical world not just as representation but also as a space where questions of memory, knowledge, land and labour intersect.

It turns towards how our relationships with plants are shaped by histories of caste, ownership and extraction, while opening up other ways of thinking about our shared ecology.

The students were taken to the exhibition to interact and enter into dialogue with this relationship and question the different ways they engage with the works. Gopa Trivedi leads the conversation through her own engagement with the artists and encourages students to look through a unique lens that bridges the gap between us aa viewers and the artistic research explored by the artists.

We are pleased to share that Ananya Radhakrishnan, a fourth-year student of the BFA programme at the Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities (JSLH), was selected to present her work I Am as part of BO/D&Y*, an international group exhibition presented by SPIRA9 ART at Gallery46, London, from 18–20 July 2026.

Positioned at the intersection of the body, technology and systems, BO/D&Y* examines the glitch as a space of rupture and revelation—where breakdown becomes visibility, instability becomes possibility, and the boundaries of the body begin to shift.

Presented by SPIRA9 ART at Gallery46, London, the exhibition brought together an international group of artists working across contemporary practices, including Megumi Ohata, Maya Beauchamp, Kun Fang, Guli Silberstein, Harshala More, Victoria Gong, Yixuan You and others.

Our BFA (JSLH) students stepped beyond the classroom for a field trip to galleries across Delhi, accompanied by faculty members.

Moving through exhibitions and diverse artistic practices, the students engaged closely with artworks, exhibition-making, and curatorial approaches. The gallery visits were accompanied by discussion sessions with faculty, creating space for questions, reflections, and conversations.

An enriching day of looking, learning, discussing: connecting classroom conversations with the wider cultural landscape of the city.

The BFA program at the Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities hosted the film screening of 'The Battle of Algiers (1966)', directed by Gillo Pontecorvo.

We were honoured to have Prof. Yasodhara Raksh*t (JSLH) initiate the audience in an engaging conversation on decolonial studies through the lens of cultural, political analysis and film theory.
