The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Malnad College of Engineering (MCE), Hassan, organised a First-Year Student Induction Programme on 22 September 2026 at the Alumni Tower, welcoming the new batch of CSE students.
The programme was organised with the theme โArete, Lifelong Learning and Logic to Decipher Enigmatic Problems in the Universeโ, focusing on helping students understand the purpose of engineering education and encouraging them to develop skills beyond academics.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. S. Pradeep highlighted the institutionโs commitment to providing quality academic education along with exposure to experts from diverse fields. He encouraged students to make meaningful use of their four years at the institution and develop themselves both inside and outside the classroom.
The eminent keynote speaker, Mr. Sagar A H, Educationalist, engaged the students through an energetic and interactive session. He emphasised that problem-solving ability, critical thinking, logical reasoning, research mindset and agility in learning are essential skills for engineering students in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
He stressed that academic marks should be viewed as a means of gaining opportunities, while students should continuously build capabilities that enable them to create solutions and contribute meaningfully to society. He also introduced the important concept that โassociation and correlation is not equal to causation,โ highlighting the need to understand cause-and-effect relationships rather than simply relying on observations and predictions.
Addressing the changing interests and perspectives of today's younger generation, Mr. Sagar encouraged students and teachers to engage in meaningful dialogue and understand the rapidly changing technological landscape. He urged students to move beyond passive entertainment and focus on innovation, problem-solving, research and developing ideas that can create an impact.
He further motivated the students to develop innovative ideas, pursue patents and contribute towards technological and societal development. The interactive session encouraged students to look at engineering not merely as a degree, but as an opportunity to solve real-world problems and create meaningful solutions.
The programme provided the first-year CSE students with an engaging beginning to their engineering journey, combining academic orientation with motivation, critical thinking, innovation and a broader perspective on their role as future engineers.
