The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has achieved a notable ranking of 5th among Central Universities in the country, according to the latest rankings by the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) for 2025. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi tops the list with an overall score of 994.89, while UoH scores 988.93.

The Department of Music is honoured to have organized a 5-day workshop on 'Group Compositions of Vaggeyakaras and Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi-s' from March 3-7, 2025, by the renowned Carnatic Vocalist and Vainika, Vidushi Dr. Neeta Chandrasekhar.

This immersive session enriched our PG students with a deep understanding of group compositions by various composers and the nuances of rendering Ragam-Tanam-Pallavis (RTPs). Dr. Neeta’s profound knowledge, meticulous teaching, and insightful approach provided a valuable learning experience, enhancing the students' grasp of Pallavis, Manodharma Sangeetam, and Swarakalpana.

The Department of Music successfully conducted a 3-day workshop on Exploring Semi-Classical and Light Musical Forms in Hindustani Music from March 6-8, 2025, by well-known Hindustani vocalist - Dr. Asmita Mishra.

It was an engaging experience for our PG students as they explored seasonal semi-classical forms such as Kajri, Jhoola, Hori, Thumri, and more, gaining deeper insight into the beauty and nuances of these expressive musical traditions.

The Department of Music was honored to host a 3-day workshop on Dhrupad Compositions from March 3-5, 2025, conducted by the esteemed Pandit Umakant Gundecha, one of the leading maestros of this rare and ancient Indian art form.

His dedicated teaching and deep insights into the classical essence of Dhrupad provided our PG students with an in-depth understanding of its intricate nuances and profound musicality.

The Department of Music had the privilege of hosting a 3-day workshop on 'Rare Ragas of Khyal' from March 3-5, 2025, by esteemed artist Ustad Faiyaz Khan, a renowned Hindustani musician, composer, and guru.

It was an enriching experience for our PG students to learn from a master of Khyal singing, gaining meaningful insights into the intricate nuances of this profound art form through rare ragas.

The Department of Music, University of Hyderabad, is happy to share about the insightful workshop on 5th March 2025, featuring the multi-faceted percussionist Dr. P. Srinivasa Gopalan, who enlightened our PG students on 'Decoding the Rhythmic Narratives: Exploring Notational Systems and Performance Perspectives for Mridangam'.

The students had the privilege of gaining insights on understanding the various dimensions of Mridangam as an accompaniment and its role in elevating the overall concert experience. While he demonstrated the performance perspectives and techniques, he explained the nuances and styles of mridangam playing, provided an understanding of the prastara aspects and also about decoding Mohara and Muktayis, which were very valuable to students.
